Just lost my job today. I live in MO, had to relocate for this job but my family is back in PA. I'm going to want to move back in with them. Does anyone know if unemployment transfers from state to state?

Reading this it appears you can. You may want to follow some of their suggestions I suppose.

WikiAnswers - Can you collect unemployment if you move to another state and have not found a job yet

WikiAnswers - Can you collect unemployment if you move while claiming benefits

So sorry to hear you lost your job.

Pennsylvania requires that you have at least some wages in their state within the past 18 months to be able to transfer earnings from another state. So if you moved to MO to take that job recently from PA, it is possible you could transfer the earnings back.

Otherwise, you'll have to just proceed with filing a claim in Missouri. They have online filing and direct deposit which of course you could do from PA. You'll need to have a MO address to at least initiate the claim. After that, the process is different in every state. It may be possible to move to PA and it may not.

I know in Illinois, you can file online and get direct deposit, but they also mail you a 'receipt' every week with a PIN number that you have to input during the next week's filing process. And the mailing envelope is printed with 'DO NOT FORWARD' on it. I do know someone from IL in a similar situation to yours who enlisted the help of a kind friend, they used the friend's address, and the friend received the weekly receipts and stuck them in a new envelope and mailed them to her at her new address. Note that technically this isn't legal so undertake such an action at your own risk.

By contrast Washington DC mails you a 'receipt' every week that is just a courtesy. You file online and even if you don't get direct deposit, the envelopes aren't printed to prevent the post office from forwarding them, so after you get the claim rolling you could move and continue to claim benefits.

So my point it is, it really matters not just what rules MO has for filing, but also what happens after your claim is initiated.

Best of luck.
