Basically, it's how many jobs are available vs number of unemployed people. Simple division. No way reflects how many actually apply to positions! Also means if all job openings were filled, 4/5 of unemployed would have no jobs to apply for.

Lost in the literature is the fact that they are "unqualified" openings -- temp, fulltime, high, low - whatever -- just jobs.

Check out the top graph -- early 2008 were 1.8 unemployed for every job opening -- & we were suppose to see this coming??????

and how many of those are listed multiple times by various recruiters/agencies, and how many aren't really "jobs" but commission only sales, telemarketers and appointment setters. Talk about bogus statistics.

I've seen the same jobs listed 3 times by different agencies on job boards AND show up on the state worksource list as well.

Agreed, I was just using it as a somewhat extreme example. I'm not far off (early 40s) and have plenty of friends even in that age group having a similar problem.

Just curious...
when you go for a job in nursing you fill out a skill check list...if you are not qualified for exactly what they are looking for they wont hire you...reason...there are sooooooooooo many nurses out there looking for work that someone already has those skills and they will hire them...employers are not training anyone anymore...

I agree with this statement 100%. You can add all the waste going on right here, right now, in the stimulus bill.

Q: Why can't this money (most of which has not been spent already) be used to fund a stand-alone UI extension?

A: Because this $$$ is going to grease the palms of their political supporters, not those of us they are supposed to be representing.

Thank you! I agree whole-heartedly. If you can't get a job, even in this market, after two years, it's time to start promoting YOURSELF. Go to school and do something about these skills you obviously don't have that employers are seeking.

How come nobody ever mentions my favorite stimulus project, WIFI for the boondocks?

I also don't get the "emergency spending" argument. ARRA WAS "emergency spending"; i.e. not paid for, and it funded the original EUC and COBRA subsidy. So what's the political distinction between those funds and NEW "emergency" funds they want to appropriate?

Most alz patients need med/surg care to manage their htn, dm, cad, afib, dvt's, uti's, etc, etc...so you have the med/surg skills already...I haven't come across one dementia pt who has only needed care for their alzheimers/dementia.

Grady Hospital here in Atlanta is specifically hiring VERY EXPERIENCED nurses. Have you thought about relocating to a bigger city?
