I was browsing at Barnes and Noble yesterday and picked up a book by Sylvia Browne about the afterlife. I spent a good hour there reading it and was fascinated by some of the things she described.

Has anyone here read any of her books and your thoughts on them?

The best one...main one to read, imo...is "The Other Side and Back"
Gold and purple cover one.

the one I was reading there in the store is called "Life on the other side". I found it interesting. One of the things she wrote was about dark entities. She said these dark entities, when they die, the go through the "left door" to be reborn again as soon as they die. She even wrote "don't get pregnant at the moment Charles Manson dies." I thought that was a stretch, but it is food for thought.
She goes into a lot of detail about the afterlife and I think either she may have been VERY VERY gifted or had a creative imagination.

Anyone else's thoughts please

I read one of her books, and it was full of errors, completely botched names she was referencing, and read like it was just something she threw together off the top of her head. It turned me off to her, and I'd read some of her work before, and found it interesting. But I completely lost respect for her with that later book that was so sloppy, and seemingly full of made-up "facts".

I think some of her writing is her imagination, but I think she's read a lot about NDE's, and gets her info from other authors, and parrots that (some might call it plagiarizing).

IIRC, she predicted that Obama would be assassinated shortly after he was first elected in 08, and she was wrong. I really don't but much stock in people like her, I think they are all just out to make money off the gullible.

I think even Montel distanced himself from her before her death.

I don't recall her ever making a public prediction that played out.

Quote:
Of the 115 cases reviewed with LexisNexis and newspaper sources, Browne was wrong in twenty-five, and the remaining ninety either have no available details outside of the transcript or the crime is unsolved, leaving no way to confirm Browne’s claims.
(source: Psychic Defective: Sylvia Browne?s History of Failure - CSI)
In other words, she was wrong on every single verifiable outcome.

And that was before her infamous miscalls on Osama Bin Laden and Amanda Cherry.

edit to add: She also mispredicted her own death in an interview with Larry King. She died at 77:
Quote:
KING: OK. Do you know when you're going to die?
BROWNE: Yes. When I'm 88.

I won't put any stock into these quacks until one of them completes the Randi challenge.
