i can't say i'm really appreciating the whole idea of werewolves- why vilify an idea of a species of mammal in this way? nothing a wolf does is evil, it acts on instinct alone-prey, protection etc, which is more than can be said for humans, which kill for the myriad reasons- they run the full gamut.
genetically there is no way to transform one species of mammal to another no way to transmute the canis phylum into the sapien lineage
as well please move this to the appropriate subforum thanks
and thank you

Human society would never have advanced beyond the paleolithic without the wolf. Twenty thousand years ago Homo sapiens and Canis lupus formed a unique bond. The two species became partners but humans received the greater benefit. Wolves became hunting partners, guards, and devoted companions. They accompanied their partners to war; they made domesticating other animals possible; they forsook their own kind for humans. Today they live with us if they are fortunate as members of our families but too many humans refuse them the care and respect they deserve. We call them dogs, but their mitochondrial DNA proves them to be wolves.
Humans in Europe feared the wolf so the legend of the werewolf was born; in India they feared the tiger so the legend the weretiger was born.

Werewolves go back to prehistoric times, and they were originally NOT villified. As long as societies were hunter/gatherers, they saw wolves as partners and heroes. Once societies began to farm and raise flocks, they began to see wolves as competitors, and the werewolfs turned into bad guys in the stories.
