Yes, of course there are. But there are more fakes than legit ones.

But he said none of them was able to bring that knowledge back into this mundane world.
I also think it's possible to access that information via a spontaneous psychic opening, or Kundalini experience, but the memory of it doesn't last.

Ruth, you may really enjoy Natalie Sudman's book about her NDE...she is the most intelligent
person so far, that I have read, to describe her NDE the way she does. You'll see what I mean.
Her phrasing, her particular perceptions, fascinating mind...she brought back alot of information.
She doesn't really hesitate in finding words, very clear, humble, lady...I have watched her speak.
Archeologist from Wisconsin (?) that took a job offer in Irag..she now rolls her eyes remembering saying yes, and hanging up the phone, as in... What did I just do? Irag?
Then, an IED hit her Humvee as a civilian there. What a story she tells, very sweet lady.
That spontaneous opening is often called an STE...Spiritually Transforming Experience.
Spontaneous Transcendental Experience...I have heard diff words...
The memory of my several STEs did last...like they were yesterday...oh, also, Dr. Bucke's
term Cosmic Consciousness, can't forget that one.

Hey, I just discovered Natalie Sudman last week! I've been listening to her on youtube. I don't have the book, I guess I should get it?

I do believe there are true psychics out there, I also believe they don't advertise, charge for it (but some do take donations), certainly don't write books to try and make even more money or do TV shows/appearances. A true psychic sees their gift as just that, a gift and don't use it for monetary gains or to boost their self esteem.

As a man of science and skeptic, I see it as my civic duty to balance out the quackery that is so prevalent when we are talking about the paranormal.

I have found that these so called psychics that charge a high price are worthless. Sylvia Browne being one of them. I did see a psychic once that cost $5.00 yup that's right $5.00 and he repeated a conversation I had with my father when I was 16 years old and learning to drive. The conversation was about my driving. No one else was in the car with us and its not the type of conversation one would repeat to a friend. I had this reading 2 years ago at age 60 and my father passed away in 2010. Pretty weird !!

Not weird at all. Your father apparently was talking to the "psychic" (medium). What else did the medium say?

Right. This is certainly true in more traditional societies; it's considered a "sin" to take money for the gift. However, these days, there are bona-fide mediums and "psychics" in Western societies who provide their services as part of the way they make their living, so they charge for their services. They don't advertise, and people only learn about them by word of mouth.

Do you remember the authors name? That's a book I'd love to read. When I had my NDE many years ago, before they even had a name, I recall knowing everything there was to know about the universe and how everything on earth is connected, but I don't remember how.
What I do remember is that God, or whomever you believe in doesn't judge us. We judge ourselves and we do it with compassion and understanding of why we did it, how we felt and simultaneously how the other person felt and from there we're able to learn and forgive ourselves.
