Dream of a stone vortex

I'm not sure what else to call it. But imagine a circular area in a stone floor with steps going down in a circular motion towards the center. Solid steps built into the stone floor structure. They don't necessarily descend into deep darkness. It's unclear where the center goes, perhaps just a few feet below the floor level.

I used to dream about this in the floor of a church I was raised in. I no longer accept the fundamentalist beliefs of that church.

Last night I dreamt about being in a boat going down in a whirlpool in a lake or river, and I could see the stone structure that created it, just beneath the surface of the water. I was able to get out of it and away from the others who were still in the boat. The others in the boat were people in my present life who have a kind of blind faith in the fundamentalism I can no longer accept.

OTHER SYMBOL: In a later dream last night I was in a sort of beach house with some good friends and family. People who shared beliefs similar to my own newfound faith. I went out onto the beach and was gathering some wet sand into a glass jar. It *looked* like human excrement, but it was actually very clean, just wet sand from the beach.

One more thing about the people in the boat. After I got out of the boat I climbed into my bed which was just a few feet away, and wanted to go to sleep. One of the people was a guy who preaches, and another was a woman who is mentally challenged. The guy was going to give a sermon. I told them that they could stay but to please shut the door when they left, thanks. Yes, they were still in the river/lake area which I guess was also my bedroom where I was trying to go to sleep.
