No doubt there is more to the story than this but the media anymore is sketchy at best with getting facts etc. correct.

What I always love about media stories like this, is if you google some text from it you find almost the same article, word for word, from a few different news sources. Only some bits have slightly been left out of most of them. You can usually work out over time which the "original" article was by reverse-engineering it from all the eviscerated versions and then finding an article with all the text you reconstructed.

As Mathguy suggests there is of course more to the story. 45 minutes lying there with no pulse means death. Plain and simple. Entire, total death with brain death and damage and all.

But we of course do not do that and this story is not a "miracle" but a testimony to the advancements in our medical knowledge and the skills of the medical professionals who.... as a slightly longer version of the same story on yahoo news informs us..... "Medical workers used shock paddles and chest compression throughout the emergency to try and restore heart beat and circulation"

In other words she had no NATURAL pulse but that does not mean all activity in her body stopped and she and/or her brain should be dead..... it means we, using medical knowledge and skill..... artificially maintained the processes that had stopped..... and through that wonderful testimony to human advancement..... maintained, and then ultimately saved, this womans life and all her faculties..... and ensured that a new baby in this world will have a mother.

It is hearth warming and wonderful and it reminds me strongly of Daniel Dennetts wonderful and beautifully articulated testimony to medical science and medical professionals in saving his own life with dedication, diligence and skill.

Awesome post.

As I've gotten older and I read news articles that touch on something where I have gained expertise or at least a whole bunch of knowledge.....I'm shocked at how often they get things wrong....really really wrong.

It's greatly increased my distrust of the medias overall quality.

Sounds like media just quoted doctors on the basics. Probably its unknown to doctors why she survived since they were supposedly about to call her as deceased.

Sounds like nobody asked her if she'd had an NDE. Or not that got reported. Could've been one humongous NDE! If she had one, it might add a lot to the NDE literature.

She did. And honestly there are so many accounts of such that I'm puzzled why folks continue to resist the notion.

Depends on what you mean by "resist the notion". What is it you feel is being resisted exactly?
