Lets have some fun and illustrate the main problem with "prophecy" at the same time.

Take a Nostradamus quatrain and interpret it, either seriously or in jest. Here's a website that has them all:

Nostradamus Repository: Century 10, Quatrains 71-80

I've been going through them and found this interesting piece:

C10:Q79
Les vieux chemins seront tous embellys,
Lon passera à Memphis somentree:
Le grand Mercure d'Hercules fleur de lys,
Faisant trembler terre, mer & contree.

The old roads will all be improved,
One will procedd on them to the modern Memphis:
The great Mercury of Hercules fleur-de-lys,
Causing to tremble lands, sea and country.

Which is quite obviously a description of 1950's America and the birth of the interstate highway system. The one who proceeded to modern Memphis is without a doubt Elvis. I doubt history recorded it, but I wouldn't be suprised if he made his first trip there in a Mercury. Elvis of course died in Las Vegas, and Fleur De Lys is the name of a bar in Vegas; Hercules is the middle name of one Sir Elton John, who is also a big Vegas act.

The fallout from Elvis' game changing performances made the whole country tremble...and dance.

What forbidden knowledge can you find in the works of Nostradamus?

No, no...It is describing the building of the trans Canada highway, or perhaps the railroad....The Fleur de lys is the symbol of Quebec....It definitely refers to Canada....

I've got some bad news for Tea Party folks, though:

C5:Q29
La liberté ne sera recouuree,
L'occupera noir, fier, vilain, inique,
Quand la matiere du pont sera ouuree,
D'Hister, Venise faschee la republique.

Liberty will not be recovered,
A proud, villainous, wicked black one will occupy it,
When the matter of the bridge will be opened,
The republic of Venice vexed by the Danube.

La terre & lair geleront si grand eau,
Lors qu'on viendra pour Ieudy venerer:
Ce qui sera iamais ne *** si beau,
Des quatre parts le viendront honorer.

The earth and air will freeze a very great sea,

When they will come to venerate Thursday:
That which will be never was it so fair,
From the four parts they will come to honor it.

This sounds like my February long weekend.

Everything here was frozen
I was sure as hell venerating Thursday, since I had Friday off
I had an excellent time, with friends from out of town
-----------------------

Subite ioye en subite tristesse,
Sera à Rome aux graces embrassees:
Dueil, cris, pleurs, larm. sang, excellent liesse
Contraires bandes surprinses & troussees.

Sudden joy to sudden sadness,
It will occur at Rome for the graces embraced:
Grief, cries, tears, weeping, blood, excellent mirth,
Contrary bands surprised and trussed up.

How's Rome's soccer team doing? They haven't suffered a heartbreaking, last minute loss lately, have they?

The old ways of the Southern mentality will be improved upon. One of the people responsible for this (Dr. Martin Luther King) will proceed to Memphis. James Early Ray drove a pale-yellow Mustang, built by Ford, who would later acquire Mercury Car Company. The Mustang, like Hercules, is a sign of strength and the color yellow is often the depicted color of the fleur-de-lys. When Dr. King was assassinated it caused an uproar across all the lands overseas and within the country.

Sorry, but I have a problem with the words "of course" in your comment.

Believe what you want; personally, I feel that Nostradamus was an excellent and successful fraud. It's too bad his descendants are not still getting royalties for his works.

But when it comes to prophecies, try this one on for size, 'cause it'll fit everyone reading it:

Tomorrow, something will happen to you that will ellicit a strong emotion.

[Guess what, I won't be wrong!]
