I'm from Tennessee & first heard about the "haunting" back in the 1970s when I was in high school. There was a book written by one of the family members.
The movie "An American Haunting" was based on the story. IIRC, the movie wasn't half bad.
Do you think there is some truth to this story? I read that some Bell family members moved to Mississippi to get away from Tennessee, and that some people even believe there is still a curse on members of the Bell family. There is even a road named after the Bell family in Batesville, Mississippi.
The guy that was supposedly haunted by the ghost and then later died, it sounds like he had brain cancer.
I don't know. The fact that they attributed a lot of the events to a living person (Kate?) is strange. It's been years since I've given it much thought, but I seem to recall that a lot of this centered around the young girl--possibly like a poltergeist situation--
If it's true, at least the over-all story if not 100% the total specifics, then it's demonic based. The same as any "ghost" story, where the "ghost" is able to interact and respond in real time with humans.
Why a demon would single them out, who knows, but that's what I'd have to believe.
