Haha, "first ghost"; is that like a "first kiss" story?
I haven't seen any ghosts. A friend of mine, however, saw her mother several times, after she'd passed away. Her mother seemed to be hanging around. This friend didn't believe in woo-woo stuff, and in fact, thought that woo-woo was for ignorant people. So seeing her mother really shook up her view of reality. It took her about 6 months to get up the nerve to ask her siblings (who lived scattered around the east coast) if they'd noticed anything unusual since mom had passed away. ALL of them reported seeing mom repeatedly. After another 6 months or so, mom moved on. She just wanted to make sure her brood was ok without her, it seems, or she just couldn't let go right away. My friend now refuses to talk about this, or any related topic. She finds it too uncomfortable, and disturbing to her intellectually-based worldview.
In 1993 we had a ghost cat in our apartment along with our real flesh and blood cat. I'd see a dark catlike shape out of the corner of my vision, never directly. Always thought it was my own cat until one night I felt-and saw-it jump up on the foot of the bed in the dark while my cat was curled up on the pillow next to me!
Turns out this little spirit hung out in the apartment next door too.
I was actually kind of thinking of this as a type of "first kiss" story thread, LOL
My first ghost was actually only last summer. I was never a believer before that. It was dark, as it was all the other times I've seen ghosts. I had just gotten into bed and started winding down about ten minutes before that.
My bed is by a walk-in closet, and I saw a faint outline of a person resting their hand on the opened door of the walk-in. I thought I was going crazy, but I blinked and there it was still! It was white and sheer with long, straight hair. It was most likely a girl, but could've been a guy with long hair. After I blinked again, it went away.
We moved into a closed Brownstone in NYC when I was around 8 years old (60 years ago). Had to do a lot of cleaning up there. Nana lived with us and slept in the bedroom off the kitchen. No matter what we did, that one room was always freezing cold even with a space heater. Right off the kitchen with all the cooking? It gave me the creeps as a kid. I did not want to go in there. Our cat refused to go in there too.
One day Mom asked me to go in there to get something. I saw an old woman, all dressed in black, with a long grey braid, hanging and swinging from the ceiling. Ran screaming out of there. My Nana comforted me and said "Maria" won't hurt you, but I will "talk to her" and tell her to not do that again.
Upset my Mom who went and talked to the owner. He said his Nana Maria had hung herself in that bedroom. The family moved out after that, but did not want to tell prospective tenants that there had been a suicide in the apartment.
BTW, that I was the first and only time I ever saw Maria again. Maybe my Nana's scolding worked?
What defined it as a angel to you, rather than your grandmother's spirit/ghost?
The overpowering white light emanating from above, the shape of wings and the overwhelming feeling of love and warmth, that's why I felt it was Angel.
I found out much later that my mom and her sister were raised in a strict Catholic upbringing and they had played with Ouija board without their parents knowing. She told me that they had a very bad spirit/entity/demon plague them for sometime afterwards. They were teens when this happend and I remember her telling me they would find there clothes (catholic school clothes) shredded and ripped and her parents would get pissed because they thought they were doing it to get out of going to school.
My theory is that the Angel came to us after my grandmother passed to bless us all, my grandmother was deeply religious and she could be there anymore to pray for our safety.
