These are religious items and should be returned to the owner if/when possible.
If someone left behind a crucifix and a Bible at your house, would you burn them or throw them away? Or would you treat them a little more respectfully?

A man bought some property in--New York? New Jersey? Somewhere around there. He intended to turn it into a bar/strip club. Upon renovating the interior, he noticed some "strange" symbols on what appeared to be a table or counter. He planned to turn that into a dancer table. Someone told him it was Hebrew
Some investigating revealed it was a former synagogue. The new owner was agnostic, but still felt "funny" about using someone's former house of worship as as strip joint. So....he contacted a local Rabbi, who came out and analyzed it. It was, indeed, an alter. The Rabbi performed some sort of de-consecration ceremony. Whatever was done to make the alter sacred, now was undone, and it was now just a block of wood.
The new owner said he felt better about proceeding. He said the alter always looked a little "strange" to him, he felt there was something more to it than just a table. After the ceremony, he then said it was just a counter, all the religious significance was gone out if it.
Perhaps there's some sort of similar ceremony you could have performed? Who, what type, I wouldn't know.
Maybe ask the former owner what religion it belongs to? Or, just FedEx the stuff back to him, with his address also in the return address field, let him figure out WTH to do with it
Holy spirit or evil spirits, the items in question were used in occult practices. The person in question did not believe in Jesus and the Christian Trinity or Holy Ghost. I am not 100% sure that the user's intention was benevolent.
Someone up thread mentioned to respect the objects as I would respect a crucifix. The issue is not one of respect or lack of it. It is one of what to do with these things that can't be returned to the owner. Given their unique use, I am leery to just destroy them or toss them as some have suggested. I have heard that occult items can have a spirit-either good or bad- attached to them. I have enough problems in life. I don't need a spirit after me on top of it all. If the item is haunted (for lack of a better word), then what? That is why I don't just toss the stuff or burn it. I have heard that destroying an object such as these can make things worse.
Where are Samantha and Endora when you REALLY need them???

What about his clothes and other things? Where did they go? Did you return those? Or are you holding them for him?
And respect is important. If it was a Christan alter, would you dump it in the trash? Would you feel threatened? Would you consider that it might have a personal meaning to him? It will hold energies, but unless your're planning on drawing them out its not going to do something bad to you.
I'm sure it fits in a box. Pack it and keep it in good condition. And about him not seeming to care. If he's in a hospital on medication he might just sound like he doesn't since its zoning him out. And objects themselves hold no power. That it bothers you seems to indicate you do assume something special about the things. I would consider it very bad karma to dump them or destroy them.
So pack them, and stick them somewhere until you can return them to him. I'm assuming he left clothes and normal stuff as well. What did you do with that? If its there, put the box with it. And don't worry. Objects conduct energy, but not all by themselves. Sitting in a box it isn't going to do anything. But that you respect the things will give YOU a great deal of good karma.

As a former practitioner of Wicca, I will tell you what you should do with the items. The proper thing is to bury them. That offers respect to the items and their usage. Sell them? No. That's like selling a Catholic relic. Whether you believe in the religion or not, it is a religion, and the items were used in spells and such to worship deities. Contrary to popular belief, Wicca is not Satanism, and it is not an evil religion. It is a pagan religion, one of the oldest ever practiced, and consists of the individual respecting nature and worshiping goodness and various deities through spells and rituals.
Trash it, and forget it. Keep what you want, he abandoned it. This dude wanted to KILL you. Why should you want to help him in any way? Mentally ill or not, you owe him nothing.

I would take Scooby's advice , contact a practicioner of white magick, or a member of the faith he practiced/ metaphysical store especially for the cauldron . It the sz thats going to make it hard to bury much less respectfully . I agree with sending the Ninja/Bhudda to him with his return address .
I do not believe in Christianity anymore (due to life in general and some of the people associated with it ) but I am very spiritual - in answer to your question.
Get counseling. Seriously. Reality is scary enough. We needn't add to life's worries by concerning ourselves with Sasquatch, Nessie, witches and other phantasy threats.
A former friend of ours is a witch. He stayed briefly at our house, and had to leave. I will get into this later in the post. This is making a long and complicated story very, very short. Many of his belonging were left at our place. One is a box containing many of the things that he used on his altar: statues to various deities (2 in lightly damaged condition), rocks, a crystal, a used cauldron (VERY spooky looking, with 5-pointed stars and what I believe to be gemstone cabochons), a weird chalice, a lovely vintage crystal plinth, incense burner among other things, some rather bizarre. What am I supposed to do with this stuff?
I feel very awkward tossing it in the trash. I absolutely DO NOT want to put this in my vehicle and take it to a flea market. Nope. I do not want to travel with it. I'm afraid something bad will be attracted to me or happen to me while traveling with it. Yep, I'm superstitious. Should I just toss it in the trash? I am leery to toss it out. I am leery to try and sell it. I am leery to do anything with it. I am afraid to do so, to be honest. Searches on the 'net didn't help much. This box has to go. It takes up room. Besides, I don't want this stuff in our place.
Some things concern me. One is a porcelain statue of a ninja warrior. He calls it a Buddha. It was made in the first third of the 20th century. It is that brown Satsuma Moriage ware. This bothers me because he said he channels the energy of the deity from it or through it by meditating on it. The other is a vintage compact with a jeweled lion cover. This was found with a curved, collapsible knife. These were found hidden in a bedroom he was staying in while at our house. I was told he would draw on the energy of the lion through this. He is a Leo, and I believe the lion is a totem animal. The knife was tossed in the trash. I'll get to that in a minute. I still have the ninja and the lion compact. I don't know what to do with them.
The ninja and compact are of concern to me because this person who I thought was a friend turned out to be someone we didn't know very well after all. He planned on stabbing my husband and I. It was his plan to kill us. We caught him with all our knives hidden in his room and wrapped in towels in his clothing. Some of those knives are huge. To make a long story very short, he is no longer living here and didn't get away with this. He tried this with the next person he moved in with, too. He is now in a facility and in ailing health. His friends do not bother with him in any way. I can't imagine why. He has no family.
I did contact him via phone and asked him what was I supposed to do with all of his belongings. I then asked about the altar items. He just said in an odd, unconcerned tone to sell it all. Now, I take that to mean that he has no interest in any of this. So, I asked him about the ninja/Buddha that he seemed so attached to, more because that thing truly scares me. He became very emotional over this. He wanted it returned to him. I didn't ask about the lion compact.
The Isis statue concerns me as well. He said he would offer blue feathers to it as an offering. He claimed it would spark in appreciation and acceptance of the offering. That is what he said. Can you see why I don't want this statue in our home, even if it is in a box in the garage? With it are 2 birds, one glass and one ceramic. The ceramic one has a little vase attached to it. I believe the feathers may have been put in there.
So, what do I do? Should I destroy the lion compact and ninja/Buddha? Send it to him? Toss out all this stuff? To add to this,one of the things in his stuff is a vintage ceramic Egyptian cat statue that I rather like. I also want the crystal plinth. It was in our home, he admired it so we gave it to him. I wish I could keep the cat statue and the plinth but I know I shouldn't. I have enough problems. I still want it, however. I am afraid they will attract something bad. Should I sell this stuff? Smash it up? The chalice, cauldron and Isis statue might sell, but as I said earlier, I am afraid to do so. Should I take this to a church and ask them to destroy this stuff? What do I do with this stuff?
This whole situation concerns me!
When he stayed with you, were you aware of his spiritual practices? I know people who are various types of practicing witches, and I have never heard of some one visiting with their personal alter. That usually remains in their home.
More concerning is his plan to physically kill you and your husband with actual knives!
I would be very concerned about that aspect! How did you come to the knowledge that he had intended to kill you? Did you ever think about reporting this to the police?
Why, after learning of his intentions, did you even call that man???? I think it's very disturbing that he left ceremonial items in your home, but, I find it more disturbing that he wanted to kill you both? How do you know he still does not?
Also, leaving all of these items at your home strikes me as more than strange. To be blunt - he sounds CRAZY for lack of a better word.
I think I might go to the police. That stuff - especially the knives - sounds like evidence.
