To me this seems the most likely scenario and our sad little daily life is no more than a kids ant farm, each "ant" just doing its thing and being an "ant". Although we dont live underground, we go to work. We build our structures the same, we interact with other 'ants' the same, we collect our food the same and we wage wars the same. As above, so below.

What else could describe the meaning of our sad existence here on Earth?
not sure why but the idea of being a lab rat reminds me of this episode of Rick and Morty and if you've never watched it before you'll either love it or hate it:

I like Michael Tsarian's take that there was a planet between Mars and Jupiter that was blown up in an intergalactic space war. One group in that war got marooned on Earth, and they've been working, ever since, to train and push humanity to the point where we develop the technology to mine the material and repair or rebuild their space ships so they can get the heck out of here!

Makes more sense to me than anything else I've heard

Why would they push humans to do this rather than do it themselves with their advanced knowledge? Doesn't make sense to me. Sounds like another control agenda.

I pretty much believe that aliens have been in contact with us and are secretly dealing with the absolute worst and most deplorable humans on the planet which is a shame. Maybe the aliens are total scumbags as well, or maybe they just don't understand that we elevate the worst of us to the highest positions of power and influence.

May not be about being scumbags but getting their agenda successfully implemented and doing what it takes to get that done.

Dont forget, morals and emotions are human things and aliens might not have such feelings.

What is the meaning of an Ant's existence? The same as yours.

The same can be said for the bacteria that I mentioned in post #7. All of our eggs are presently in one basket. Whether you are a human, an ant or a bacteria; we are all locked in this struggle for survival. Currently we have set parameters and we cannot exceed those limitations. Like the bacteria in the Petri dish; our planet is the extent of our range.

Ants could even fare better than humans or the example of the bacteria in the Petri dish. Because they live a simple life and the distances between colonies; they could easily outlive humans as a species. They are resourceful with a colony mindset.

For humans; we have to reach out to the stars. Space is our only chance for a prolonged future. War, plague, famine, or global catastrophes could annihilate our species. If an asteroid would hit Earth and we would have a colony on the Moon or Mars; we might be able to repopulate the Earth. Right now, if the Earth dies; we die. If we would have colonies even farther away from our sun; we would have even greater chances of long term survival.

Of course that is theorizing that our species will not change. The 'Singularity' is approaching and it is hard to say how that will play out. AI could be our replacement or our salvation? Only time will tell. One of the possible outcomes would be that we would merge with AI and develop a hive mind. It would be anybody's speculation where that would take us!

Plus, humans are the only species on earth that has not 'adapted' to life on earth, in other words, we NEED to build stuff so we can live and function.Every other species has adapted and acclimated to the particular climate they live in.

I've always favored the computer simulation in a celestial arcade game room. Super beings hitting the buttons to create chaos and confusion in return for those tickets and tokens they can redeem for some silly prize.

I look at the different types of humans, the different colours and the different bodily characteristics and I see quite a few different species of humans. The characteristics are so different that, if we were other animals, I think we would have been classified into other species.

So, I think it is perfectly possible we were 'seeded' by ET as the gardener and it is our arrogance and ego which does not allow us to see what should be obvious.
