Or maybe a scientist had ordered some marijuana and the post office worker found it. It's still illegal in the US and in New Mexico.

Maybe a letter bomb? Nutty people are ubiquitous.

It could have been a lot of things, but I suspect it involved something that was in the mail, and was addressed to the observatory.

A legitimate question is ... why is the post office and the observatory still closed, or if open now, why were they closed for so long?
They don't keep things like suspicious packages or marijuana a secret and have a black helicopter patrolling because of it.
Suspicious packages make news immediately and so do illegal drug issues. With suspicious packages, people are evacuated immediately by local law enforcement and told there is a suspicious package. They don't wait several hours for the FBI to show up in numbers and then refuse to talk about it.

This topic was also brought up on the political forum.

I think, knowing the world wide importance of this facility, it was hacked by sources unknown.
I also believe the blackhawk was there to help in removing all sensitive data that is obviously there.
As for the post office, residents, and the people seen around the antennas, this is what I think.

The post office more than likely handled some of the communications between the facility, and other agencies around the world, and if data was compromised, the important ting to do is to shut down all lines of communication dealing with the observatory.

As for the residents, many of them probably work at the facility, and access to the place would be a security breach.
Now, the antennas;
More than likely, because of the work ongoing at the observatory, the antennas must have had some sort of sensors attached to them.
Checking, and,or re calibrating them could possibly have been the reason people were seen working on them.

So, the big question is what happened at this facility to cause it to be shut down?
I believe, as stated above, the system was compromised by unknown sources, and the logical steps would be to shut it down.
The FBI was more than likely called in because this observatory is involved in scientific research that could not only affect this country, but the entire world.
Another question would be, if the system was compromised by some unknown source, what would be the purpose?
My guess(and it is just speculation) is, some foreign country is behind what ever took place at the observatory.

Perhaps the research on the sun is not the only mission the observatory is involved in.
Could be a military strategy in space is at hand, and some country got wind of it.

Not to be outdone, the alien conspiracy is being floated around, but I don't believe that has any credibility.
In time I believe we will find that some country is behind whatever took place at the facility.

Bob.

The observatory wouldn't have called the FBI because there were problems with the antennas. It's far more likely that the FBI has disabled them. Perhaps there is a problem in the sun. President Trump has been unusually quiet.

The OP linked to Fox. They're asking questions. However, Salon, claiming to have interviewed the director, tells us to go back to sleep.

Maybe someone in the area through various means or methods was making threats about Trump. That would be a reason for all the activity involving all those agencies.

But why close the observatory and post office? Why send people to do something to the antennas? Why did they need any helicopter, let alone a Blackhawk.

I don't have an answer, but I can make no sense of this affair.

Maybe a Blackhawk was all they had available. They are multi-use choppers.

Now if it was an Apache Longbow, that's a different story.

There was no obvious use for any helicopter.

Do you really believe that the Deep State has only one helicopter available?

Folks: here's another thought. This could very likely be a diversion.

Assuming the reports are accurate, the details are odd:

One or more helicopters overhead
Village and post office evacuated
People examining or doing something with the antennas

Additional unanswered questions: Why do you need helicopters for a suspicious package or mailed threat? Why do you have people on the tower by the antennas? It will be interesting to see how this turns out - if that is we ever are really told the truth about what was going on.

That's true. It could easily just fade away without ever being addressed.

It looks like this place is literally out in the middle of nowhere, on a mountain peak, so it must have been really important if the feds got involved. Not telling the local sheriff isn't all that unusual since the local police seem to resent the presence of the FBI in many cases.
