Interesting. What will it take scientists to rule out natural phenomena? Could there be a message or Morse code like pattern to it?

Its hard to get ones hopes up. Even the WOW! signal was debunked.

It came from a location 1,500,000,000 light years from Earth. If it does turn out to be alien; they will have advanced far beyond where they were when they created their signal (if that is the case). So; interesting for the time being. We should hear more if the signal continues.

Who or what could create a signal so powerful that it would reach earth from that far away? Aliens? I think not.

When this FRB occurred, the only life on earth was bacteria and viruses. It would be another 600 milliion years before multicellular life developed in the fossil record. If it was aliens, I believe they're likely long gone by now - either extinct or sublimed as in Iain Banks' Culture novels. But there's no evidence as far as I know that FRBs contain any information that suggests an intelligent origin.

It was probably the last dying signals from the last humanoids warning any other humanoids not to allow silicon consciousness. Of course they have been extinct ever since they made the intergalactic warning! In the meantime AI has been spreading out from their home planet annihilating every species it encounters - we're next!

I suppose the radio signals are unexplained, but there's nothing paranormal about them. This post is probably more at home in the Science subforum.

How do you know what kind of technology an advanced civilization would have? and what their limitations would be?

Maybe the signal was sent months ago?
