A gang of monkeys in India stole a batch of blood samples taken from patients who tested positive for COVID-19, according to Reuters. We shouldn’t have to tell you why this is bad news.
The monkeys raided a lab at a state owned medical college in Meerut, an Indian city.
“Monkeys grabbed and fled with the blood samples of four COVID-19 patients who are undergoing treatment. […] We had to take their blood samples again,” S. K. Garg, a top official at the college, told Reuters.

I wonder how monkeys got into the lab and why they should target those samples. In a lab, there are probably loads of different types of equipment, testubes, machines, etc so why those samples?
If the military train dolphins to detect mines and to blow them up, couldn't they also train monkeys to steal things too? But why CORVID-19 samples? Perhaps it was not CORVID-19 samples, perhaps it was samples of other virus and just reported as that?

If true, I can envision some not-so-positive implications.

I agree, it is all very fishy and an odd story. I mean, why bother to report it at all?
IF (and it's a big IF) there is any truth in the story at all, then it is probably mis-reported and the folks who know about these things (3-letter agencies) are probably happy to have confirmation their mission went well.
We are not in a position to know if the lab had any CORV-19 samples, or what they were really doing there.

Normal monkey behavior, tbh. Now, if monkeys are not a natural part of the local flora and fauna, you might be on to something here. Then again, they could be escaped lab monkeys.
