I thought they had a few very large private donors. Wasn’t the guy who bought Skinwalker Ranch one of them? The one who’s friends with Harry Reid? Don’t remember his name.
Interest in UFOs touches all ends of the socioeconomic spectrum so I imagine there are a few wealthy donors.
Yes, this is true, but if you look at the current, most advanced military aircraft...its the F35.
The F35 is no longer a 'secret', there are many pictures of them online and even technical information, but if you look at past 'ufo reports', (when the F35 would have been secret and in experimental stage)...details and descriptions DO NOT match!!!!
Back in the days when the B2 was 'secret' (in development), you can look at UFO reports from that time period (and now that we know what a B2 looks like), the UFO reports match, people were reporting black triangles or black chevron shaped aircraft...(which is what the B2 looks like in reality!)
I worked at Whiteman AFB back in the early 90s. They had a few B2s and there weren't even close to the coolest stuff I seen there.
According to Wikipedia, MUFON is 'nonprofit organization', but I dont think thats actually what they are.
Its tough to find hard financial data (without being a member), but they do have a board of directors, and they are also an international organization, Back when J HArzan was arrested, some details of his life came out and apparently he was pretty wealthy and living in a 'posh' neighborhood in southern CA (among the Hollywood elite)...so MUFON must have a good income stream in order to pay him that kind of salary.
I was trying to find out if they receive any Govt funding, Im not sure on this yet, Ive read a few things that imply they do receive funding, but Im not 100% sure. (I do think it would be big news if MUFON was indeed receiving Govt funding of any kind.)
What do you all think about this? Opinions?
I don't think they receive government funding. To the best of my knowledge, the vast, vast majority of members are unpaid volunteers. Maybe they get donations, but I don't think they're funded nor should they be.
I used to think that MUFON was truly a science-based organization that investigated UFO reports and gave a fair, unbiased report. But after the run of "Hangar 1", it's obvious to me that they're just like all the others - they try to glorify the subject and they're true UFO "believers". I lost all respect for the organization after that series.

They recently started restricting access to some of their website content, even UFO reports, you get a member log in page pop up and will not let you read the rest of the report, lol I think its around $12. to become a member.
They also have a hefty charge for buying all the material to become a 'UFO investigator'.
MUFON's website says they are an "an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 charitable corporation," which is verifiable on the IRS website, and there's a link to their 2018 tax return here.

I guess being a MUFON volunteer is kinda like being a PGA tournament volunteer - you have to pay for the privilege of volunteering.
I knew Walt Andrus, the founder of MUFON. He was a kindly, low-key guy with nothing but a sincere interest in the UFO phenomenon. I was a MUFON Section Director for a time. It was nothing but an extremely low-budget, grassroots, volunteer organization. Some of the most respected investigators of UFO sightings were affiliated with MUFON.
MUFON has deteriorated badly over the decades, to the point that its standing within the community of serious ufologists has been that of a laughingstock for quite some time. Part of this is due to its endorsement of some lunatic-fringe cases. Part of it is due to the dubious quality and ethics of some of the characters who have been at the administrative end. I am sure that Walt, who died in 2015 at the age of 94, would be dismayed by what MUFON has become.
MUFON has been on life-support for years. Not only is it a nonprofit, I'm confident it's a very low-budget nonprofit. I'm confident the government has never had any involvement with MUFON apart perhaps from monitoring its activities in its heyday. Some of the current, more high-profile, more well-funded organizations would be better candidates for such suspicion.
