Right you are. But that isn't what you wrote. You wrote that the Church proclaimed Galileo was going to hell because he disagreed with the flat earth. You got your facts mixed up. What got Galileo in trouble was proclaiming that the Earth revolved around the sun, and not the other way around.

It had nothing to do with "flat earth." The idea that all those rubes in the Middle Ages thought the Earth was flat is a myth. People have known the Earth is round for thousands of years.

Check this out:

MYTHS ABOUT THE MIDDLE AGES

"Flat earth" myth is the first topic covered.

Wrong again. John Paul II did not forgive Galileo, which would imply that Galileo was wrong. John Paul II formally apologized to Galileo, admitted that the Church had been wrong. Big difference.

Oh, as far as aliens... resounding no. That's my take on God's word. If you believe the bible is infallible and inerrant (in the original manuscripts) and the ultimate authority, as I do, it doesn't matter what denom you are, aliens are unscriptural.

mams,

I am curious (remember, biblically illiterate here), is it that the Bible does not discuss "other life" or is there actually scripture stating that aliens do not exist?
Thanks,

Not that I've ever read.

It reminds me of a similar question once posed to St. Augustine. Someone once asked him if a satyr could receive Christ's salvation and be baptized. St. Augustine wisely replied, "Until you can show me a satyr, it doesn't really matter."

Right now, we have absolutely no evidence to suggest that extraterrestial life exists. But we don't have even a smidgen's worth of evidence to prove that they don't.

Do aliens exist?

The only honest and logical answer is: I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not.

But if they do, I'm sure hoping they are Wookiees.

Thanks, Mark. But since you and I sit in the same pew on Sundays, I'd also like to hear the non-Catholic response.
