One of the problems which, until recently, I couldn't quite articulate about the trope of aliens demanding to speak with human leadership are the incomplete assumptions it implies. To get the first half out of the way; what is the likelihood that an advanced starfaring civilization would still be based on biology? Or that it would even be comprised of individuals who operate independently from one another? Does such a system need political governance?

But let's work with the common idea that they are biological, individual organisms not too unlike ourselves. It is possible that they may view the idea of leadership, individuals exerting their will over others through power, as a barbaric practice. Perhaps they would have graduated out of such a concept long ago in their own history. When we look at real world examples of advanced society encountering secluded groups, the Sentinel Islanders for example, they have effectively been left undisturbed as the difference in their stage of societal development versus the outside is currently too great to reconcile. It raises the question of whether humanity is being left uncontacted intentionally while a extremely mature galactic civilizations await us to grow out of the notion of select individuals treating other individuals as property to be controlled (likely among other other glaring issues not addressed here).

Are you proposing an alternative phrase would be used, like "Take me to your breeder?"

If they are as advanced as expected, they did thier research and looked at the internet, TV and radio signals from home and decided to skip visiting us. The last 18 months alone with crazy human behavior would be enough to say forget it.

Theres a nice and more peaceful desert planet with two suns they can visit instead. Many legends there, though the cantinas get get rough on Saturday nights. Good music though.

Yes and who can blame them if they've seen the kind of reception other alien visitors have got-

In fact perhaps aliens are already among us in human form as "watchers", sending messages to their Big Boss in the sky about how we're messing up?
For examp this chinese bloke in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is an alien in human form who's lived among us for 70 years (poor slob)-

Wait, I feel a bible quote coming on- "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels unawares"- Hebrews 13:2
The word angel of course comes from the Greek 'angelos' meaning "messenger".

Let's hope their messages to the Big Boss don't make him decide that we're no-hopers and make him press the "goodbye human race" button-
"The time has come for judging the dead.. and for destroying those who destroy the earth" (Revelation 11:18 )

As your friendly moderator, stepping in to remind everyone this is not the religious forum nor the political forum. Just saying.

The visitor would certainly be the initiator, since they are truly in the position of dictating terms of contact.

I see your point, but why are they constantly popping up in our skies, toying around with our aircraft, etc? This doesnt seem like 'letting us be' too much...it really seems like something else entirely...

Personally, I think whatever they are doing and have been doing for 1000s of years here...its a LONG project for them, and I would assume everything they do has a purpose towards that goal.

Ive said this before on here, but I think they may be setting us up, to tell us they are our creators (and we should be worshiping them as gods), thats kind of the vibe I get. I dont know when they plan to spring this on us or make themselves publicly known, but I think the day is coming.

All good questions. But there really is no way to have a definitive answer. It sure is fun to speculate though! Into the mix, you could also throw:

Why do we assume that alien "biology" is strictly carbon based? Life certainly could have evolved in other ways round other stars.

Why do we assume that aliens have "individuals" the same way we do? Even on Earth, that isn't true across all species. Many types of insects have types that only do work. Others rule. Others breed. Others scout. And LOTS of species on Earth are very individualistic, seeking other members only long enough to reproduce. Could a higher civilization evolve from such concepts? If so, what might they look like?

It's certainly possible.

Again, it's possible. But who knows? It's just speculation. It's equally possible that extraterrestrial visitors aren't visiting because of us at all. Maybe they are here to see the butterflies or the octopus or hedgehogs or bacterial colonies. Maybe we are just a backwoods "pit stop" on the way to somewhere else, a place where they pull over to let their pet Bigfoot relieve itself before they head off to another star. Who knows?

C.S. Lewis's space trilogy had an interesting idea that I am surprised no one has played with since. Each planet had its own "guardian angel" type of being. Earth's angel (Lucifer) "went bad," so Earth is "off limits" to the rest of the cosmos.

It is entirely possible that the cosmos is full of advanced civilizations, and they know enough about Earth to give us a wide berth till we get our mess cleaned up.

But again, this is all speculation. Sure could make for some great science fiction though.
