Team scientists have expressed a strong interest in the object and Yutu 2 is now expected to spend the next 2-3 lunar days (2-3 Earth months) traversing lunar regolith and avoiding craters to get a closer look, so updates can be expected.

Per space.com:
A likely explanation for the shape would be a large boulder which has been excavated by an impact event.

How does size matter? If something is anomalous and is where it should not be, then that should be enough to investigate. "Likely" in whose opinion. This is just speculation and conjecture done by (we assume) scientists. They should be curious and support investigation which is what we pay them for.

An excavation of a large boulder which has a cube shape should be interesting enough to investigate. This article is just another example of making a nothingburger out of it. Maybe it is just Sour Grapes by Space.com? However it does say we humans should investigate it.

So yeah, it's not an obelisk or aliens, but certainly something to check out, and hard to discern much from the image. But large boulders (right) are sometimes excavated by impacts...
Large boulders maybe excavated by impact events, but they do not often look like this square shape and it has a large area of shadow on the side facing the camera which is unusual too.

Of course, size doesn't matter much, but there were theories about something being very big...

The image might be fake. It's just to blurry to determine what it is or where the pic was taken.

The Chinese have found a mystery square-shaped feature on the Moon. Well, what a surprise. Many people believe there are quite a few odd-shaped structures up there, so one would have to be discovered at some point in time. Lets all see what the boffins determine it is.

Discussion of it here (No-one wants to say it is anomalous yet!)

.
Photo quality is terrible, perhaps intentionally. Is it from their backside rover? If so, surely they could get a sharper image than is shown. It's impossible to tell what it is.

The previous link I posted of the park in Bolivia (https://www.bing.com/search?q=amboro...22&FORM=EMSDS0) shows how nature can form cubical mountainous structures. Of course, we need a better look, but we should never dismiss nature's ingenuity.

Looks like Bigfoot. He’s crouched down, looking at something on the ground.

One of the few sensible answers so far.

Where's that "Ancient Aliens" guy? He knows everything.

LOL, yes he could tell us how they released the picture and are now trying to cover it up instead of just not releasing the picture to begin with. Like most stuff it makes sense if you don't think about it.

Will be interesting to see the rock formation when they get close enough to get a good picture.
