To explain the seemingly large difference in intelligence of H.sapiens compared to other primates, a "theory" has been proposed that extraterrestrials did cross breeding of primates to produce sapiens, intially a sterile population (like horse x donkey --> sterile mule) used to mine (?maybe) raw materials or something for the aliens...But then, a mutation made them fertile and they became unmanageable, so the aliens left.
Of course, that doesn't explain the fossil record that shows a fairly direct, gradual change from primitive hominids to modern Man over the course of several million years. That large dif in intelligence (cranial capacity & artifact record)) isn't nearly as large as those theorists imagine.
I have pointed out the differences previously. There are huge differences between primates and man, not least of all eye colour, skin colour, voice box differences, bone structure differences, etc. Fossil records are largely incomplete with a bone here and a bone there and the skeletons are far far from complete with science making up the missing parts according to the current thinking of the time. Even across millions of years these attributes would not change without some intervention. Imagine the chances of finding two pale-skinned primates in the same area and mating. Even then, pale skin makes the animal more visible and less likely to survive in a dangerous environment. So, you would have to have pale skin AND increased intelligence at the same time to avoid being eaten which increases the unliklihood of that happening by orders of magnitude.
I believe I read somewhere that we do not yet have the complete fossil of a common chimpanzee. This is largely due to the habitat they live in and the difficulty of fossils to be created in that environment. Fossils need to be formed by the body being in a wet environment and covered over very quickly before the predators get a chance to eat and distribute the bones.

As many similarities are there are between humans and chimps --- and the similarities are really striking --- there is also a vast gulf that separates us. It isn't just a level of intelligence. It is a degree of intelligence. We aren't just in a different playing field. We're playing an altogether different sport.
Even science acknowledges this. Someone posted the famous clip from 2001, because even a die-hard old atheist like Arthur C. Clarke knew that there was "something" that separated us from other primates. What that something might be ... science hasn't come up with a conclusion. Yet.
Is there a single shred of evidence that it was aliens? Nope. Not a bit.

Fossilization ain't easy and it isn't common. The overwhelming majority of lifeforms that have lived and died on this planet have left no fossil record of their existence. A complete fossil is exceedingly rare. We know of many previous lifeforms for which we have no more than a single bone or tooth.
And we know of lifeforms for which we have no fossils. The record of their existence is in our genes. But we haven't found a single fossil for them yet.
IDK about that theory, why would they just stop using humans for mining slaves? The more humans there are, the more mining that can be done...plus humans are fairly easy to enslave/control.
Is what the OP states sort of what Scientology believes?
Up until the past 100 years or so our technology and weaponry were pretty benign. We could only move slowly from place to place on the ground. And our weapons at best could kill each other or animals one at a time.
And there is nothing either in recorded history or geological evidence to show humans rising up against some alien creator.
And DNA as well as fossil evidence indicates evolution over a long period of time. It would have to have happened millions of years ago. When we would have had no ability to fight off these superior aliens. Unless they got bored and left or caught a disease. But again. No fossil evidence of them being here.
Bigger question is what existed before the big bang? Or if you are of a religious persuasion. What did god do before they created the universe.

It is off topic but how did something as beyond silly as a science fiction writer brag that people are so stupid he could create a religion and pull it off?
It has to be one of the greatest feats ever pulled off in human history by far.
EDIT: to add I just discovered if you click on one of the numbers in the pole you can see who voted for what.

More likely that we humans created ET in our minds...
