This cryptid is very much like the Mothman in that it supposedly appeared prior to the Chernobyl disaster and was seen by nearby residents and employees of the plant. It has red firey eyes and no neck/head with 20 foot wingspan. After sighting this creature, folk experienced headaches, bad dreams, bad luck and some even had strange frightening phone calls too.

The most commonly accepted theory suggests that the Black Bird of Chernobyl may have been the same creature spotted in Point Pleasant, West Virginia leading up to the collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1968. Investigators have suggested that the appearance of this creature is an omen of disasters to come in the area in which it shows itself. The physical description of both the Black Bird of Chernobyl and the Mothman, the creature sighted in West Virginia, are very similar, and the reports of nightmares and threatening phone calls leading up to these disasters are shared in both cases.

A second, less accepted theory, suggests that the Black Bird of Chernobyl was nothing more than the misidentification of the black stork, an endangered species endemic to southern Eurasia. The black stork stands nearly 3 feet tall and has a wing span of nearly 6 feet. This theory however fails to take into account the menacing phone calls and the the disturbing nightmares. Also the physical description given by the majority of eyewitnesses who actually saw the Black Bird of Chernobyl does not in anyway match the physical appearance of the Black Stork.

Ive never heard of this one...I think its significant about the witness descriptions NOT matching a known animal or explanation...misidentification is certainly possible with these things, but when numerous descriptions do not even come close to matching...Mis-ID seems less likely...

The thing about Mis-ID, known animals move around, they dont just stay in one spot, so although Ive never had a mis-ID experience, but seems like it would be tough to actually mis-ID something? (for instance...mis-IDing a bear for a Bigfoot...as soon as that bear moves or shifts positions,(or the light changes in anyway), its going to be obvious, that its a bear! (bears look NOTHING like a human, even standing up).

Wait… so there’s a black bird in Chernobyl that makes threatening/menacing phone calls? Or does he have cronies that do it? And are they also giant black birds or other cryptids?

From what I understand, the phone calls are of a electronic nature, or static. Ive also never heard of any cryptid reports from that area, ( and that is understandable), since very few people frequent this area.

Not threatening phone calls but strange unexplained ones strange voices or sounds on the line - almost as if the cryptids appearance alters the electrical balance of the area. Like on sci-fi shows you see a crackling after the wormhole has closed, maybe it really IS like that?

It is just strange that the Mothman stories also contained reports of strange phone calls too. So, how do these happen and how are they related to cryptids?

I think the 'mothman' is somewhat different from other cryptids, example, with Bigfoot, Dogman, lizard people, even the Chicago flying humanoid (that looks very similar to a mothman)...those cryptids, there are 1000s of reported sightings, from all over the place, but with the Mothman, its basically just one single city/one incident period, after the bridge collapse, people STOPPED seeing this thing, and I may be wrong, but I dont think there are many Mothman sightings reported even?

Considering how long ago the Point Pleasant incident occurred, the thing people were seeing, may have not even been connected to the bridge collapsing at all. I do wonder why there was not a rash of copy cat reports of the Mothman, in that area or anywhere really, to claim such a thing would have been a real attention grabber at the time, (but no one thought to report one? LOL) that is odd imo.
