Raymond Moody is a well respected author of many books dealing with the occult.
It was one of his books that originally got me interested in evp.
His book, "life after death" explained why, and how evp came into being.
Once I got involved, Sarah Estep was the go person for the many questions I had, and she was a wealth of information.
I read somewhere soon after she passed, she made contact with her her daughter, and others who belong to the organization she started, dealing with evp.
I think the problem with most skeptics is, they seem not to want to open their minds, and delve into new experiences, therefore, they don't have any reason to believe.
There are dimensions yet to be explored, and some will get involved in those searches, while others just walk away and become oblivious to what they can't see, touch, and feel.
To them, if those physical senses are not apparent, they do not believe.
