I agree, once we can 100% rule out a hallucination we can then move on to the paranormal.
But there's the practical problem--There's no way to record /document a hallucination. We have to rely on the observer's description, and to him it's very real.
Until we can indesputabley record somehow for all to see a ghost, BigFoot, Loch Ness Monster, space alien etc etc we have to rely on statistics ...and given nobody has been able to substantiate claims of thse paranormal observations in 1000s of years, the odds are against any of them being real....
...and to make it tougher-- there's been so many cases of outright fraud regarding these things, it'll take a lot of proof to convince reasonable people.
I have friends that had things happen like t and lights coming on while every one was fast asleep, and water faucets opening at night ,and being pushed out of a house, and turning on the gas stove in the middle of the night repeatedly.
I could go on but the point is real events occur , not imaginary.

I completely agree with what I made bold. It would take some serious proof to convince me of any of the things being touted as paranormal. My post was more about how many in this section instantly jump to the paranormal as an answer to everything when it should be by far the last.
Some things can be explained as "normal" misinterpretations if examined well enough.
Taking psychology courses in University, I was truly interested in the fact that what we see... is not always reality. Our eyes capture light, colours, shadows and movements. That data travels to our brains - and it's the job of our brain to interpret that data. Sometimes our brains misinterpret said data.
However I am also of the school of thought that we are still a very young and naive species. In 250 years (if we even have a normal society in that time) we will look back and be amazed at how little we truly knew.
By then we will have flying cars fueled by our metabolism and the Greys will be our neighbours helping us defeat the Dragonians from alpha centura X.

There's plenty of documentation out there about "uncanny things."
Luckily (for now) we have access to avenues of education on those topics.
Life can be wonderous. Maybe some things aren't meant to be known "for sure."
Lots of back slapping as usual. Reminds me of the members of Parliament shouting "Hear, Hear" in House.
