Back in the 1880s an old woman who was living in a two-story house in Pennsylvania had died. Weeks later her daughter and some workers showed up to clean the house up. While the daughter was inside cleaning and packing things, two of the workers were in the back yard removing part of a dead tree which had fallen against the house after a lightning strike.
As she was putting things in boxes the workers summoned her to come outside. When she got there one of the men pointed to a window on the second floor which had been covered by the fallen tree. When she looked up she was horrified to see the face of her mother peeking out the window.
It was later theorized that the old woman was looking out the window during the storm and the bright flash of the lightning hitting the tree captured her image on the pane of glass, similar to a ambrotype portrait.
Here are some others.
The Western Electrician Vol. 11 1892
PHOTOGRAPHED BY LIGHTNING
A religious paper published in Waterloo, Ia., publishes this story with the statement that it comes from a reliable source.
A strange freak of electricity occurred in Thayer County, Nebraska, during a recent storm. Miss Annie Holsinger had gone to the well for water, and upon returning to the house, saw, as she approached, her mother looking at her through a window.
She thought nothing of this; but later she went to the well and saw her mother again watching her, she was much perplexed, especially when she found her mother sitting just as she had been when the daughter left the room.
Upon investigation it was found that Mrs. Holsinger had not left her chair, and that which the daughter had seen was a life-size portrait on the window pane.
It had been photographed there by the lightning. The portrait remained for a few days on the glass, and then faded away.

I remember reading about a pair of binoculars that were found in Japan after the atomic bombs were dropped that had permanent images on the lens.
