I believe the government does know something. The Mayans and many other ancient civilizations have predicted the destruction to come based on what they were "told" by beings from above. But if the government fessed up about ET, we wouldn't act to kindly towards them. The crazy christian folks would be getting out their guns firing at them because they would believe they are demons. The government really doesn't know how the world would react and how it would effect society and the global economy. They are scared to find out because it would upset the system of control and our way of life. it would be a shock to society. The truth would seriously alter religious beliefs which would send people into a spiritual panic. In fact in the Brookings Report, NASA was recommended to keep knowledge of alien life secret from the general public for the very reasons I have mentioned.
the Brookings Report, was commissioned by NASA. In it you will read things like this:
"While face-to-face meetings with it [intelligent extraterrestrial life] will not occur within the next 20 years (unless its technology is more advanced than ours, qualifying it to visit Earth), artifacts left at some point in time by these life forms might possibly be discovered through our space activities on the moon, Mars, or Venus."
While not specifically recommending a cover-up of evidence of extraterrestrial life, Proposed Studies on the Implications of Peaceful Space Activities for Human Affairs does suggest that contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life (or strong evidence of its reality) could have a disruptive effect on human societies. Moreover, it does mention the possibility that leadership might wish to withhold evidence of extraterrestrial life from the public under some conditions.
"Evidences of its existence might also be found in artifacts left on the moon or other planets. The consequences for attitudes and values are unpredictable, but would vary profoundly in different cultures and between groups within complex societies; a crucial factor would be the nature of the communication between us and the other beings. Whether or not earth would be inspired to an all-out space effort by such a discovery is moot: societies sure of their own place in the universe have disintegrated when confronted by a superior society, and others have survived even though changed. Clearly, the better we can come to understand the factors involved in responding to such crises the better prepared we may be"

The Brookings Report clearly states that the best course of action for NASA to take would be to prepare society for the possibility of such a discovery to minimize the impact on society. How could they do this? The movies is one method. Its interesting to note that NASA and other government departments
have worked with movie producers in movies related to ET and space travel. One such movie is called "Mission to Mars" where it is revealed that the face on Mars is artificial and that an ET entity there revealed to the NASA astronauts in the movie that human life was seeded here on earth by other human like extraterrestrials from Mars, It is revealed that our heritage comes from Mars and the we are here because of a disaster that destroyed life on Mars. The alien in the movie also revealed that life is common in the universe and finally we have "family" in other places in the universe.

Isn't it odd that the U.S. government is the only government that doesn't comment on UFOs? we have actual documentation that tells NASA they may need to hide information about the existence of ET. There is just too much circumstantial evidence that proves there is an ET cover up.
