l don't know who will be the super-power nation of tomorow..........at the fish-market some voices talking about .......... how to learn China language in few days...... but as you can it's just a voice
The next world power won't be a military one, thank God - literally!

After watching a few “Documentaries” from the USA, such as; ------ Rich and Stupid, following the lives of Mrs and Mr Nice but Dim, or Housewives from here or there, Young and Pregnant, I think there is more to be seen in common with the US than Europe. Maybe that’s just the media making things look that way though.

Geographically, yes, culturally, no. How many French/Italian/Swedish television programmes hit our screens and when was the last time we had a no. 1 single/album or cinema blockbuster that wasn't American or (at the very least)British?

Only in the food industry or fashion world do we see much of a European influence but even in these areas American influence dwarfs that of European competitors. We may see sleek European fashions dominating the catwalk but on the high street you'll see as many New York Yankee baseball caps than you will football shirts (even though baseball itself isn't popular).

American TV has dominated our airwaves and screens for decades. How many French/German or Italian bands or artists can the average citizen of the UK name? Our fasions are also dictated by programmes such as 'Glee' and more recently 'Mad Men' but though European culture is acclaimed by critics and lauded by the Islington intelligentsia it is largely ignored by the British public as a whole. Especially in comparison to the all consuming American influence that looms large on every billboard from Oxford Street to Piccadilly circus.

There seems to be a constant here: many people in the UK see it as more desirable to percieve themselves as culturally similar to other Europeans, and also have a strong desire to portray U.S. culture as more alien to them.
