This concerns me greatly:

Academics join protest against axing of GCSEs in favour of O-levels - Telegraph

I think this would be a huge step backwards and would lead to a two-tier system again in which many people would be "written off" at a much younger age.

While I agree that the education system in the UK is in need of reform and improvement, this is not the way to go about it. Fortunately, I can't see it becoming a reality. Nick Clegg has already slammed such proposals. I cannot think of any advantages of scrapping GCSEs in favour of O-Levels. Secondary education should be universal and fair. The cream of the crop will rise to the top anyway in most cases, but that doesn't mean that others should be left behind.

Hmm, I take it the standard English system is like our standard grades? I don´t really know much about the system in England.

I don´t get why they would change it in the first place. Sometimes change can be good but I don´t really know too much about this subject..
