I just answered another thread which gave me an idea for a new one. Having moved to the US recently from the UK I was wondering if anyone else notices people's eye colo(u)r :-)

A few years ago my wife and I became obsessed with the eye colour our daughter would have and I started noticing people's eye colour. I have brown eyes and in the UK I would say I was definitely in the minority. I would frequently be in a meeting with colleagues and brown eyes would be outnumbered 10 to 1 by blue eyes. When I moved to the US I noticed the opposite was true. Even if you rule out ethnicities who almost always have brown eyes and just concentrate on people of European decent, the percentage of blue eyed people here in the US seems incredibly low compared to the UK and I am now in the majority :-)

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed this?

It's also regional. I live in Australia, with a lot of British ancestry, and for those with British ancestry I'd say 1/2 is about right. Also among British people I've met.

Blue Eyes in Europe Graphic Sociology

It depends where in the US too...the OC is more Hispanic, if you go to a town in rural northern Minnesota I guarantee you there'll be plenty of blue-eyed folks.

Green, grey.etc eyes are considered 'light eyed' as in lack of melanin.

Places like LA, SF, Miami, NY would naturally have a lot more dark eyed people because of the demographics.

Been living in Spain for a while now and the majority have brown or dark dark almost "black" eyes. As being from Scotland and looking like an Italian I do blend in here

Interesting, yeah in the North of England most people have blue eyes. I will need to look at the Brown eyes in the south of England next time I'm there though as they always seemed to have blue eyes. Nice map though, thanks for the link.
