I am sure they didn't intend it. But it happened. Now it is time for them to accept the consequneces of what they did.
People make mistakes sometimes with tragic consequences. You might make a mistake while out driving ... go a little too fast, not notice that the light had changed ... have an accident and someone might get hurt or killed. It wasn't deliberate but it happened. Do you think there should be no consequence for your actions?
No not at all. The opposite. There are always consequences. I meant in general. We can all be reminded in that how we treat other people affects them. In every day life, and in these extreme situations.
There is also the receptionist who put the call through. The nurse may have thought the phone call was vetted before coming to her.
The nurse who committed suicide is the one who took the call. She didn't give out info, she transferred the call to Kate's nurse who is the one who gave out the info.
By her name, Jacintha Saldanha, this Nurse seems to be from South India. It should be investigated whether Hospital Management decided to terminate her from the job because of prank call and then she decided to end her life. Foreign workers have a lot to lose, things like visa are tied to their jobs, and she took extreme step. Very sad!!!!!
Actually, that name is Portuguese. Some Indians do have Portuguese names, though, if they came from parts of India that were Portuguese colonies (Goa is the most prominent).

True. Like I said, there should be a very thorough investigation. Whether it was the nurse, the receptionist, or someone else who decided to answer the questions in detail, someone at the HOSPITAL was at fault - at least, if not moreso than the DJs. My gosh, what were they thinking? Did they not have any sort of training about patient confidentiality? For anyone - not just royalty - but in the case of a high profile patient, you would think their standards would be even more stringent and they would have sufficient training to handle all sorts of journalists and curious people who might try to call for info.

Not necessarily. There are millions of people in the UK with Indian-sounding names who were born and raised there, along with their parents and grandparents.

Indian and Anglo Indians are very proud people to be humiliated in this way would have been devastating for her. Hopefully the two idiots will not be back on air.

From what little I heard, the woman spoke with an accent so she was probably foreign born. She is the one who passed the phone calls on through to the other nurse who spilled the beans.
She would have felt responsible since she answered the phone in the first place. It seems that there should have been some sort of screening done before it ever got as far as the nurse who did all the talking. Whose job was that? If it was the job of the first nurse, then she failed miserably and would have felt very guilty. Still, it would seem that in a large private hospital in London where they are accustomed to high profile patients, screening of callers would be top priority.
Something obviously went wrong at the hospital where the called was not screened--was this the nurse's responsibility or was there supposed to be someone above her who should have handled this? Was there possibly a flaw with the hospital itself for allowing such a situation to occur?
Something or someone at the hospital is to blame but definitely the real blame lies with the instigators. There's nothing funny at all about phoning a hospital, a place where people are sick or dying, and playing a joke. Even though they never thought they'd get through, it's still no place for a joke.
