Remember the New Age Travellers, the convoy, hippies - do they still exist in the UK?

seemed big in the 80's and 90's yet seem to be over now, more or less.

anyone have any views on them, particularly from their heyday?

(not to be confused with the Irish Travellers/Gypsies)

Yes, they do.
You find odd pockets of them in rural Wales, in Galway and around England.
I always found them decent people and useful for scoring a bit of gear off in the old days.
Although as always there's a small element of anarchistic scumbags who cause trouble for the sake of it.

I think there's a few sites in the West Country as well, but I guess they have been forced to being mainly static nowadays

shame really, as that whole scene was a great movement

I remember there used to be some living in a big old rusty brown Bedford Bus in town, back in the late 80s/early 90s!

However, parking charges introduced around 1999 soon got rid of them. Im pretty sure local house prices improved after the rusty old heap moved on too.

do you really think that one travellers bus had an affect on house prices?

I doubt that would be the case, more like a reason put forward by the locals to get them moved on (because they didn't like alternative sub-cultures)
