My father was from not too far from the Northern Irish border just one county down and I was born in the Irish capital so not a "Plastic Paddy". I'll return there sometime in the not too distant future as well.
My grandparents were from Fermanah and Tyrone but left in the late 1800s to come to Glasgow.. I had always wanted to visit but never did till about ten years ago, as I wanted so badly to see where they came from, Fivemiletown only really has like one main street so small and it was quiet when we arrived,, the road sweeper knew we were strangers and came over for a gab and I asked him about my grans surname to see if any of her family still lived there..... hahaha was I sorry... He shouted for the man in the newsagent shop , a woman walking her dog,,, and a local minster to help us... next thing a woman appeared in a lovely sports car, who came towards us saying she was a Flanagan too..... someone in the newsagent shop had phoned her to come along to try and help.. hahaha it was like a scene from The Quiet Man at the railway station with them all yapping and trying to help but not really helping hahaha... the woman in the car then invited us to go and visit her mother who lived on a farm round the corner... I couldnt believe it.... She said... her mother was too well just now but would love to have a chat about the Flanagans who lived there and just to knock and go in...........NOW where in the world would anyone ever invite complete strangers to walk into their house... marvellous... of course we never did it but how nice of her to offer..Will I go back... I hope so as I love over there, but wont leave my wee dog in the car on the ferry.. and hes not allowed on deck with us...

In the countryside it is like that all over Ireland. People know families for generations and they are great historians. People are generally very kind and friendly and it's nice to have someone with a positive view about Ireland and the Irish. Thanks Dizzy.

I wouldn't expect anything different from you Roscoe. You never fail to write derogatory things about the Irish. Any post of yours that mentions Irish is always a put down.
Obviously no home in Cork for you but just a way to put the boot in the Irish. "Like many simple folk they're uncomplicated and friendly". Enjoy your superiority Roscoe if it gives you some measure of satisfaction.
roscoe is scots irish so its not a big surprise that he hates the irish
