The following story gave me the idea for this thread;

BBC News - Drive to hide rubbish bins out of sight

Where we live I would say that we have the ideal situation- no bins, a weekly collection of both rubbish and of recyclable materials.

Rubbish (no limit) goes in black sacks and I think goes to an incinerator which generates power, and the clear sacks are for cardboard, certain plastics etc.

There is no glass collection- there are plenty of bottle banks around.

Green garden waste can be taken away fortnightly if left in special sacks which are tipped into the lorry. There is a cost associated with that service.

The key thing is that there are no bins blighting the streets and fronts of houses, unlike where my mother lives in the next County.

There there are around five different bins or containers for the different types of refuse/recyclable material which blot the environment.

What is the situation where you are and how do you feel about it?

I hate to see a row of overflowing bins on the pavement, , years ago the midden men collected the rubbish from round backcourts here in Glasgow.. not now.... it has to be in an area where they can easily pick it up.. the refuse to take bins with lids up.. even though its a two weekly collected, which means the bins are howling when they are picked up.l..... Im very lucky that I can put mine out with neighbours outside my back gate where its not seen. but many cant do this.. what I wonder is if the council tax will go up to cover the council having to make places to keep these bins...

seems to be a big fuss over nothing, bins are no big deal, can't believe someone is even thinking of making a new law about this.

A big farce, nanny state 2013!

On my street, bins are always brought in once they are collected so they're never an issue in that regard. When I bring them in, I take them to the back and put them against the wall under my kitchen window.
