Even if you don't recognize his name, you certainly recognize the titles of some of the TV series he helped bring to fruition.

I remember him and recall some of the programmes he was responsible for.

I haven't watched the whole YouTube article, but saw that there is a bit on a film called 'Raise The Titanic' which brings to mind his quote that it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic!

The Queen met his mother and said "your boys have done very well". She replied "not as well as yours".

The Grades were into all sorts of messing about with companies under one umbrella effectively making a cartel monopolizing TV production. Because of this they lost a TV franchise.

Yes, good old Sir Lew Grade of ITC and ATV fame

I know him best for TV shows his companies help put on the air, like The Saint,
and all those Gerry Anderson puppet shows, like The Thunderbirds and Joe 90.

Also Lew was smart enough to gain control of the Beatles music publishing rights (circa 1969),
Lennon-McCartney's Northern Songs Ltd.

Not bad for a jewish lad born in the Ukraine in 1906.

TV Executive Michael Grade his nephew, now sits in the House of Lords.

Lew Grade always seemed a bit flamboyant and over the top.

As for TV in the 1960's/70's and indeed 80's, it was like a Broadmoor Hospital production, and we await news of further arrests as part of the on-going Operation Yew Tree. Indeed nothing surprises us any more, I am just waiting for Brian Blessed to be arrested for worrying sheep on Dartmoor.
