Also Southend isn't exactly a walk away for Londoners, and Scarborough/Bridlington isn't a walk away from Leeds now is it?
If you live in Bournemouth, you have a big massive sandpit and a beach where you can easily surf or relax, just one step away!

Southend is very close to London - a popular day trip for East Enders.
Scarborough and Bridlington are both over 60 miles away, but not hard to get to, and I don't care about being at the beach. If I'm bored, I can go to a nice restaurant, see a movie, go shopping, go to a bar and order a drink, go to an art gallery, or get stoned.
