As to whether a salary of £30,000 a year would yield a net income of £2,000 a month- sounds about right, but others may be able to confirm that.

I don't get why would I need 3 bedrooms...We now live in a 2 bedroom apartment and we don't use the second bedroom at all, the baby sleeps in our bedroom, as I am still nursing at night...Even if I don't and he has his own bedroom, the 3d one would still be unnecessary.

The job is in Northern Quarter

I have no idea why a three bedroomed house was mentioned either.

I'm sure you will be able to fine tune the search as you would like, but I did a quick search around a north Manchester area and came up with this;

2+ bed flats to rent near Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester M4 | 2 bed Flats To Let | PrimeLocation

It depends on the type but some are full of crime and very dumpy.

Median salary in the UK is around £28k so I would be very surprised if you could not find somewhere decent to live in Manchester with a salary higher than that.

I think it might be less than that, closer to 1700?. Either way I don't see why a family of 3 couldn't rent in a decent area and afford to live on that income. We always did, and that was with an older child and a car.

£30k is just over £2000 net monthly. That will be more than enough to rent on a private estate in most parts of Manchester. For a family with one child there will be plenty left over to live on.

Jaggy, the median is £18k not £28k. The national average is around £26k, slightly less in Manchester, so the op would be living on a good income for that part of the UK.

So to answer the original question, yes that salary is plenty good enough.
