American houses are just bigger, houses and lots are puny in the UK because it's much more crowded. Say what you want about Burlington/NC but the suburbs around London I've visited are nothing to write home about.

I now live near the Research Triangle. Lots of small Cookie Cutter Townhouses and sterile swathes of Family Homes made of Plastic and Sheetrock. "Urban Villages" that mimic the "puny" UK Houses. McMansions that have less charecter than the average British Shed. One thing i do know that is the houses in those suburbs in London will still be there in 100 years time, cant say the same for the "glued together withe odd nail thrown in" homes here. You are right in saying that its not 1956 around here compared to Burlington though.
