I was wondering if you had the same kind of laws that we do in the US and what the penalties are for breaking them. Here is a list of laws in the particular area where I live, not sure about the rest of the country on some of them but if they are laws where you're at could you give me an idea how much $$$ the pain will be if you disobey them.

1. DRIVING WITHOUT A SEATBELT

2. NO HELMET FOR MOTORCYCLE,BICYCLE OR HORSE (I mean for you not the horse)

3. TINTED GLASS ON YOUR VEHICLE

4. DRIVING BAREFOOT

5. DRIVING WHILE TEXTING/TALKING ON CELL PHONE

6. HAVING A YARDSALE/LEMONADE SALE/BAKE SALE IN YARD (We have to pay for a permit)

7. HITCHHIKING (It is illegal here but it's never enforced )

Why? Are you planning on going to the UK to ride a motorcycle barefoot while texting?

1,2 and 3 are the same in the UK as in the US. 4 I'm not sure about, never heard of anyone being charged with it. 5 is the same as the US. 6 not sure about but I don't think we need a permit as long as its on our own property. 7 Hitch hiking is not illegal in the UK and many people do it but I think motorists are wary about picking up complete strangers these days.

The only time you are allowed to drive without wearing a seatbelt is if you are reversing and need to look over your shoulder.

We don't have stupid jaywalking laws either.

1. DRIVING WITHOUT A SEATBELT : Normally 3 points on license + £60 fine.

2. NO HELMET FOR MOTORCYCLE,BICYCLE OR HORSE : 6 points + court penalties. There is no requirement for adults to wear a helmet while riding a horse or pedal bike.

3. TINTED GLASS ON YOUR VEHICLE : Police will ask you ( during the stop ) to peal it off if it's film. If smoked, then 7 days to replace the glass. ( applies only if tints are too dark )

4. DRIVING BAREFOOT : No offense. Poilce would offer advice only

5. DRIVING WHILE TEXTING/TALKING ON CELL PHONE : 3 points & £60 fine

6. HAVING A YARDSALE/LEMONADE SALE/BAKE SALE IN YARD : If on your own property, no offense.

7. HITCHHIKING (It is illegal here but it's never enforced ) : No offense, unless on motorway

Those are the
minimum, if you are compliant & accept the charge. There are in some counties what they call "better driving" courses, where for minor offenses + a fee the driver can avoid the license points.
Of course the officer has the option to just give warnings

Your laws appear to be similar to ours except you seem to have more freedom on your own property.
Here, we have a guy that works for the municipality that drives around looking for various infractions such as; Porch railings not being a certain height, any signs in your yard that you neglected to get a permit for, he also carries a little stick with him to measure your grass and if it's 5 inches or higher he will give you a warning and if it's not cut the next time he drives by he will have a ticket issued to you. Yes, jaywalking is supposed to be illegal here but I have never heard of anybody getting in trouble for doing it.

item 3...tinted windscreen glass. I have been told by the local MOT testing station that this invalidates the MOT certificate. item 5...using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving...I think I heard recently that the fine is being increased for this but I forget by how much.

Has there been an increase in traffic accidents due to hand held phones there ?
