Due to Blairs poddle like behaviour, more folks hate us than you think..
We are hated by some in the world. We have faded as a world power, so we tend to support America, and go where they go to fight. Harold Wilson kept us out of Vietnam, but this is how Tony Blair talked us into the war in Iraq. After this war, it was to be a new dawn..........

True, Blair was a disgrace. I lost a lot of respect for the political class after his antics...
I genuinely happy when he was first elected, he seemed like a breath of fresh air.
Same here. I sat like a grinning idiot, staring at the tv, as he stood on the step at 10 Downing Street waving to the photographers with his family. I thought he was a good politician, and a good man. I voted for him each time he stood for re-election.
His money grubbing since leaving office is sad to see. He was followed by the emperor with no clothes Gordon Brown. The Labour party is in serious decline now, and will struggle to regain power.

Yup I will echo your sentiments, I remember cheering with my mother. I remember the flags as he shook everyone's hands on the way to number 10. We also voted for him every election (so disappointing)
To be honest, while the money grubbing is distasteful, he follows in the wake of a long line of ministers who shaped policy for big companies expecting favours at a later date.
I would recommend the you watch "The mayfair set" its on youtube at the moment. A brilliant documentary, which charts Britain's decline and the moral/economic fudging that left us with the questionable status quo of Britain largely being at the mercy of corporate interets. Some characters like Al Fayed actually come across in a good light.
Watch all the episodes, the moral decline which occurred in the wake of imperial decline is staggering. Some of the old elites were happy to put the world to flame, just to line their own pockets.
I think you and I have spoken about this before, but with the decline of the left, labour (in terms of workers) is in an even weaker position now vs big business

Yes, I thought he was different somehow......... I read somewhere that President Bush asked him before going to war in Iraq, was he willing to pay the blood price. Blair went to Capitol Hill, and he was cheered to the rafters by house members after his speech. I still remember his face full of triumph.
Well, look at the mess Iraq is in today, and the brave soldiers who died there, and others who came home maimed. We tried to show we are not in decline as a world power, even while riding America's shirt tails. Tony Blair was the last politician I will ever trust, and believe in. Watching his speech now is sickening.
britain resigns as world power??? ............. Have we fu*k !!!
We have the best intelligence network in the world, we have the most highly trained special forces regiment in the world in the sas and are quite possibly the richest country in Europe (certainly the richest city in London )
Now military wise on the ground we simply don't have the numbers as we would like but that's down to geography the worlds other super powers usa,China,Russia for example are much much bigger countries than us
And I'm am very proud of have the U.S. And the president as our biggest allies and like to think we are there's also

In short we are a small country but a great one
I think you've about nailed it. Britain is still a powerful country. It is the second most powerful in Europe after Russia, and the only European nation that could go toe to toe with a full Russian onslaught and not get blasted to bits in a manner of days. That said the world has changed so that the larger population nations actually have their act together, and that combined with domestic spending choices has limited the UK's ability to project power. All that said the UK still likely has the largest reserve of soft power in the world, and if it were to push for some sort of federal union with the major nations of the Commonwealth I think at least some would join up under British leadership which would even the playing field vis a vis the larger population nations.
