I know where you're coming from, because I was in the British army in the 70s......... they used to train in Canada back then as well. I didn't go myself, but I heard a few stories.
Even back then, the lads liked a few drinks, then moved on to the violence. I witnessed it many times, and sometimes unavoidably got caught up in it. It's just something in some young people from Britain. They have a few drinks, then want to fight. All it ever did to me was make me sleepy thankfully.
Id guess you never went to the Locarno in Glasgow then at the weekend when the US navy hit town hahaha.

How many of the American sailors made it out of Glasgow alive?.......... I was quite shocked by the Glasgow residents on my first and only visit. Scars, tattoos, drunken behaviour, fighting in the street..... and that was just the women..........

hahahaha...some true statements there... but it was the Americans who fought amongst themselves, but it happens in all these situations where men are in close proximity.let just say the Shore Patrol were kept busy back in the day..
I was on holiday one time at the Beaches resort in Turks & Caicos. All inclusive including the alcohol and a drinking age of 18. Needless to say, the American kids went crazy. So it isn't just the Brits.

I grew up in Glasgow and went to college in Manchester at age 18. I was quite shocked by the violence in Manchester on a Friday or Saturday night. Made Glasgow seem quite tame in comparison.

You want to try Yorkshire Street in my home town Oldham. Listed as one of the ten most dangerous streets in England........ I had to indulge in fisticuffs there myself a few times. As long as I didn't disturb my take away chicken and chips.............

I must admit, my first wife left me for a man with a Glasgow accent. He tried to intimidate me........ As some from leafy London have found, I'm not easily intimidated.........
