It's the beginning of the beginning. They (The UK) wont' be bullied by political correct people. The EU or Ewwwwww is ran by faceless people whom elect themselves and are on payroll unions so they represent themselves and have unfair advantages. However the idea of the EU is not bad forming a union to prevent strife and warfare but it has been far removed from that which we needed to pull the plug a decade ago or the rest of Europe will become like Greece and it's banking situation. The reason socialist nations like Denmark/Norway are making it thru like it is is because they make money off of drilling the North Sea plus they are smaller then the USA so it's easier to cover up being broke until they can't.
Plus they do have SOME capitalism leeway as they realize it's needed just like China and Russia are stepping away from total state control and are asking themselves "What's next?"" since they don't have the framework of the USA founding fathers nor went thru the same situations so it can't be compared but that doesn't mean they can't have their own charter of rights to keep the government from overreaching it's status quo and give citizens liberty of travel/expression.
The USA is going to learn some hard HARD lessons if we go the way the socialist want and if they go up in arms thinking they need to do a full cleansing. We wont' be any better then Yugoslavia and any *arms* movement in the socialist minds will be more akin to the Russian Revolution where multiple people fight each other and becomes a cluster four letter word that will just drag on. Places like this forum there won't be the electricity to run it or it will be very different under total censorship which the lights go out at 10pm under curfew.
What is it with Americans and this constant fear of socialism?? They are soooo brainwashed in the US! Denmark and Norway are (so I understand) among the VERY nicest places to live in the world, whatever type of government they have (and no they are not commie reds) has done rather nicely for the peoples of the countries.

I am not really sure where your dislike for the EU comes from, considering that you yourself freely live in Portugal and you can work and move whereever you want, thanks to the EU.

No. But humans are territorial animals. Once ethnic groups have developed due to isolation, they won't go away anymore. And ethnic groups by nature want to set themselves apart from all others and decide their own fate.

So? There was emigration and immigration before the EU as well. Just like Europeans can still emigrate to countries outside the EU, such as Canada, Australia etc.
I am against the right to move anywhere within the EU. Moving to another country should be a privilege granted only to those that will benefit the country and embrace the country's culture instead of their original one.
So, I could still have emigrated to Portugal without the EU, and even if I had not, who cares, the world would have gone on...

I'm with you there Americans are completely brainwashed. As with anything in life the best thing is a balance. Social policies are essential to ensure the rich do't run amock and the free market is needed so that people don't rest on their laurels. Hence the socially aware capitalism practiced in Scandinavian countries is thus far the best form of governance although I would bring down the political correctness dial a bit.
Empires in decline lose their conquered territories and split apart. More than a century into the decline process, Britain has lost some big pieces, but the process has still been fairly gentle. The USA has been softening the impacts, but that ends as the USA is a few decades into its own decline.
