Mayo on a bacon butty? Are you out of your mind? You'll have ketchup or brown sauce and like it missus.

I've got a little clump of bluebells in my garden actually. I'm hoping they'll get bigger, but then I'm moving soon so I'll have to leave them behind. Pity.
I know this thread's for what people who aren't here at the moment miss about the UK but I hope you don't mind my interjections - I'm really enjoying reading all your lists as it's making me appreciate what we have here, and sometimes you need that don't you? Trying not to start humming land of hope and glory... lol

I know, thats just how the guy looked at me too. I had forgotten about brown sauce. I asked my husband what it was and all he would say is brown sauce. Here we say well its beef gravy or chicken gravy or chese sauce and so forth.

That's a tricky one! It's almost a brand. Well it is a brand - it's "HP Brown Sauce". Like hollandaise sauce tastes like hollandaise sauce... er.... what does it taste like?? Pickly. Smoky pickle...ish... - no not pickle. Tangy and a bit spicy... but definitely smoky... it tastes like... Brown Sauce!!! lol
I'd go for ketchup on bacon though myself.
Tragically the use of colours gets extended sometimes, which really makes me cringe. I can't stand it when people at hotdog stands and similar ask if you want red sauce. "It's ketchup!!! Say ketchup!! Oh and I'll have a bit of yellow on as well please... and one of those long brown things in the middle... How many of these silvery things do you want in return?" Well I don't say that obviously....

I haven't had breakfast yet and you are all talking about bacon sarnies and ketchup and HP sauce- it is not fair. I love HP sauce but when I was growing up we used to get Chop sauce which I think is similar to steak sauce over here.
However, last night we were out for dinner and had the most beautiful filet steak, someone had ribs and someone else had a very tender pot roast with garlic mashed potatoes. You can't get stick to your ribs like that in the UK.
Still fretting about the bacon sarnies though.

Some of the British goodie foods can be gotten in large metropolitan supermarkets (NYC has many) or small delicacy shops (again in Greenwich Village, NY, they have an English restaurant/shoppe that sells many sauces, including HP, jams, jellies, tea, etc.)
For those who don't mind shopping on line (I do) here's one of several purveyors that do mail order (broken link).
