My digital camera has a button with pic of a flower on it - I pressed that! I'm not very technical but believe it's the macro ? which is for close-ups. It was a bright day but not too sunny, and the sand does give great contrast.
I need to practice some more as I am very ignorant of photographic skills and find manuals deadly dull. Maybe we could hijack/divert the flight path of this thread to include some photography tips?

Lots of photos! Sorry if I slow your computer down
Hi guys,
Home now and on the impossibly slow dial-up. Preparing to bore you all to death with various holiday photos. Are you ready? Brace yourselves...
Horse on Dartmoor
Trees in Robin Hood's Bay (one of several from there)
A mysterious little door in the Lawns, Lincoln

Another from Robin Hood's Bay (such a photogenic place - it's so pretty!)
One more... The bay from a slip-way:
A flower border (very English country garden)
And lastly, the fog a week or so ago.

Lovely photos RH1 ! I need to refine my photographic skills. What camera do you all use ?
We used to have an excellent Canon EOS500 SLR ( film) and when we broke it decided to switch to digital.
We have a small Sony at the moment ( which is really quite good and much better than we expected for the price) but are looking at Digital SLRs for more complex shots like whale-watching and wildlife shots. Any recommendation ?

I'd love to get a digital SLR. At the moment I'm just using a nice Olympus with a 5x optical zoom and good Macro setting. It's a few years old though so you can't get it any more. It's about 5 megapixel but I always end up reducing the size to send to people. Resolution is getting insane these days!
Keep the photos coming everyone! Loving this thread.

I just spotted the end of your message there! It's a great idea but I can't help thinking we'd get moved into Photography out of UK. I wonder if they've got anything like that in there? Any advice is always good
My thing is contrast and always has been, whether it's in my paintings or photos (I wouldn't dare to suggest this is a 'tip' by the way, it's just me!). I think that's why sunshine just naturally gives you better results but also why your photo of mousehole works so well, because you've got the contrast between the grey and the bright colours.
It's also why I love winter sun and long shadows.

St Ives pictures
Oooh! I just realised I missed some! Beachy ones. Just 3, all St Ives which, as I'm sure you all know, is a stunningly beautiful place
I have to admit, my lovely boyfriend took this one. And risked wet shoes in the process.
This young gull was adorable. I have a movie of him paddling in the shallows a short while later, webbed feet propelling him absolutely nowhere.
Go to St Ives! I'm not on commission from the tourist board, honest

Now look what I've started!
Beautiful pictures all around. I live so far away, in deepest, darkest, Oklahoma. Yet, I love looking at pics from across the pond.
Thanks to all who are posting pics. Keep them coming! We have all seen the travelers guide pics of the double decker buses etc, now let's see some of the REAL UK.
