I thought a "tailgate party" was a gay idiom.

They are increasing in numbers because if you are self employed you can put it through the books as business vehicle and save a huge amount of tax (over a 4x4/SUV say).

At least that's what it said on one of the motor shows on tv. Some bloke down my road has an imported American one but of course it's left hand drive which is why you tend to see more of the smaller Japanese utes (new word that I will now adopt, got to love those Aussies) because they also drive on the correct side of the road

We had some tailgate parties when i was over in SC. My boyfriends family all had their trucks out. My boyfriend is planning on buying a pick up here. Gotta love 'em

That's gonna depend on where you live. There are lots of four wheel drives and pick up trucks here cause it's really hilly and more rural.

It is very impractical to drive an SUV in the UK as the back would fill with water every time it rained.

Also, only plumbers drive pickup trucks over here.

BTW, is there such a thing as a Toyota Hilux in the USA? It is the most indestructible pickup ever (Top Gear tried to destroy it and failed)

You can put Either, A roll-up Vinyl Or Lockable Fibreglass Tonneau cover on the vehicle, To keep rainwater out of the load well.

Yes, However I believe the Americans know the Toyota Hilux, As The Toyota Tacoma though?

I know about the covers I was joking!
As for the Hilux, Top Gear found it the most indestructible car ever. I seem to remember they tried all sorts of things, and ended up putting it on top of a block of flats and then demolishing the flats. It still drove away afterwards!
