The new 12-sided £1 coin will enter circulation on 28 March (my birthday by the way )

The old round £1 will be legal tender until 15 October. So get'em spent.

I just checked and I only have one of the old pound coins in my UK coin stash. I might keep that one as a souvenir. Alternatively, I might spend $1,000 coming back to the UK just so I can spend it (probably be back sometime anyway) .

There were versions across the Empire/Commonwealth also known by nicknames.

Obviously well before my time, however I do have an interest in coins and I like the fact it bears some resemblance to the pre-decimal threepence.
