My Father used to read me the stories, I've read them to my daughter and the three of us have all sat and drunk tea beside him. Michael Bond may be gone but the bear will carry on.
Paddington is up against stiff competition from the once-and-future Pooh ("classic" Pooh, that is). I haven't even read the Paddington stories. Maybe I should.
I read Paddington Bear as a child and my sister had a stuffed Paddington. I remember the first time I visited London at the age of 7 with my father. One of my 'requirements' was that we visit Paddington Station.
Back in the 80s, the BBC used to show the Paddington Bear cartoon at 5.30pm, just before the BBC News (which used be on at an earlier time of 5.40pm back then, if I recall).
That used to be the same time slot for other classic kids tv programmes, such as The Clangers, and Ivor The Engine (no comments about the fake Welsh accents, please ).
I was a fan of Paddington at the time, and the other ones.

A little sentimental perhaps but memories eh, what can you do.
Very Sad but nice that people have been leaving flowers and jars of marmalade beside the Paddington Bear Statue in London's Paddington Station in honour of Michael Bond.
It seems London's Rail Stations are becoming ever more famous, with Kings Cross having a Platform 9¾ at King's Cross Station which was part of Harry Potter books and films.
I did some googling to find the old cartoons. The ones I remember are narrative, with a Teddy Bear in a cartoon world. I thought it must have been a figmemt of my imagination until I found them:
