Police chief warns PCs need more help from the public.
so now the public has to do their job for them? sorry, i'm not trained to arrest violent offenders and it wasn't long ago the police were warning against forming vigilanty patrols.

Angry Daily Mail readers forming Vigilante Patrols now there's a frightening prospect.

People generally don't help the police because they have generally had bad experiences in respect of the police in the past, and tbh I don't blame them.

Even when they had record numbers they didn't investigate most crime, and just gave out crime numbers via some call centre, in order that you could claim on your insurance.

the number of police officers has dropped in recent years due to underfunding, in 2010 it was 171,000 as of March 2018 it was 122,000.
it is up to the government to properly fund the police force, we employ the police to protect the public, not form vigilanty groups, if so what is the point of having police, we might as well all be given a gun and it becomes like the wild west, it already is in some places.

Cry me a river.

The police didn't do much when they had record numbers of ofifcers and they didn't investigate most crime, indeed they just gave out crime numbers via some call centre, in order that you could claim on your insurance.

The police have always been useless, there's just a lot less of them to be useless now, and to be honest I have never found the police to be worth even talking to or engaing with and I am certainly not going to put my life on the line to help them.

Perhaps they can stop playing hide and seek min their cars now, or watching porn or having a sleep down the station or spending two hours going for takeaway food or ignoring injured people in order to get home to watch the football. All of which was exposed years ago on Channel 4's Undercover Copper (video below).

PCSO's are even more useless and don't even get me started on the for profit companies that now work on behalf of councils and harass people over litter and numerous other trivial things, whilst raking in vast profits. The police these days don't even do a lot of wehat they used to, indeed football matches are largely now policed by stewards, the motorways have a network of cameras and Highway Agency Patrols and even door security at pubs and clubs is trained and licensed, and can support the police at night in town centres.

exactly, in my neck of the woods the number of police officers has been halved and most of the -non city- police stations have been closed, even if you find a manned one the "front desk" is closed permanently and you have to contact them online, and don't hold your breath waiting for a reply.

It wasn't that different when they had more officers.

However I agree, that the cuts have probably gone too far.

You can probably just get a crime number on-line now, and you can't even ring the local police any more as everyone is just referred to the 101 number and a call centre.

It also seems that more and more of the polices resources are being used in relation to hate crime or sexual abuse which used to be a Child Protection issue and the remit of social workers rather than the police. Then you have Counter Terrorism which also takes up resources.

It's little wonder that the police have given up on ordinary crime and little wonder that the public has given up on them. Although recent mass corruption and links to organised crime as exposed by BBC's Panorama didn't help the police's case much.

the government should cut the foreign aid bill and spend it at home.

The total Home Office Budget is £8.9 Billion, the Foreign Aid Budget is £13.8 Billion, and on top of that we have £8.6 Billion going to the EU every year.

That's £22.4 Billion which is enough to fund proper policing and indeed to properly fund areas such as social care for the elderly and to fund money for carers, as well as the NHS.

Why we fund sch a large forein aid budget when we have so much harship and poverty at home is beyond me. Most other countroes give far less in both terms of a total amount and in terms of per capita spending on foreign aid.

Nothing new.

They used to cordon off the top and bottom ends of the Bigg Market in Newcastle Friday and Saturday nights, and just let any issues correct themselves.

Got to agree with BNW the police have been worse than useless for most of my life prior to living in the States, and now 20 years later, they're still as much use as t**s on a boar.
