Default Shoreham by Sea info

There is a good chance that I may be coming to the UK in mid July for business. The place I will be visting will be Shoreham by Sea. Having never been to the UK, what can anyone tell me about things to do in the area in my free time? Is it close enough to London for a side trip. I will probably be there for about a week maybe including a weekend. Thanks

Shoreham by Sea is not much to speak of - but it's only five minutes from Brighton - the most vibrant town in the south east! There is plenty to do and see there, and you can get to central London by train in under an hour.

Brighton is packed with restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, great shops Shopping North Laine Brighton Shops North Laine Traders Association NLTA, The Lanes: Brighton Villages with their Own Unique Characters and Individuality, interesting buildings such as The Royal Pavilion, Brighton, a pier Brighton Pier - arcades, weddings and corporate functions on the sea, a fun seafront promenade and loads of things to do. Lots of 'what's on' info here Brighton Hotels | City Guide | East Sussex | UK . Or just wander around!

Lots of water activities too Brighton Water Sports UK

Eating-wise there is almost too much choice, but the Regency is a very good place to start. Brighton Restaurants - The Regency. And Terre a Terre is fabulous, one of the best restaurants in the country - it's vegetarian but the flavours are so wonderful you'll never notice. Terre a Terre, Vegetarian Restaurant, Brighton

Carat's Cafe Carats Cafe Bar | Basin Road South | Southwick | West Sussex | BN41 1WF on the beach at Shoreham, and The Schooner Inn at Southwick - are both good food and views, but it is a port/harbour town so more interesting than picturesque

BTW it's a good idea to eat out in pubs - more casual, friendly and cheaper (usually) tho Brighton is becoming over-run with gastro-pubs. The Basketmakers is one of my faves Basketmakers Arms.

Quite a few celebrities live at Shorham, including Heather Mills (Paul McCartney's ex) and Fat Boy Slim in the deco houses on the seafront, and Brighton is stuffed with them.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks for the info southdown. Sounds like this may be a lot of fun if work doesn't get in the way. This could turn into a regular thing travel wise. Are you a native of the UK? What part of Texas are you living in now?

You'll love Brighton!

I'm originally from London, have travelled and lived in various places around the world but settled (?) in Brighton 15 years ago, and absolutely love it.

Now in Austin for a year or two, missing home but enjoying the new life and all things Texan.

Let me know if you'd like any more info on Brighton/London etc.
What takes you to Shoreham, of all places???

There is an engineering firm there that the company that I work for kind of adopted of sorts. It's a weird business arrangement that I don't fully understand. They send people over here for a week or two and we send people over there for a week or two and we all work together on projects. This will be the first time that I have been selected to go but it seems that once you are selected you wind up going every once in a while on a semi regular basis. I don't ever hear too many people complaining about it. It doesn't seem to be frequent enough to become a problem, just a nice ripple to break the boredom now and then. I would imagine that you are enjoying Austin. Austin is a great city once you get around the traffic issue. Lot's of thing to do. Especialy in the summer. They have a great Farmers Market downtown on Ceasar Chavez St. on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings if you like fresh veggies.
