I would choose Manchester I just think its a much better city but I didnt like Liverpool at all not been for a couple of years so things might have changed but Manchester would get my vote.
if you had to choose between Liverpool or Manchester which would you choose and why? also how far apart are they?
Liverpool... I think they'll take the title this year - they're do! Some new good signings - nothing but potential. I think Torres will be player of the year this season. Oh sorry..thought you were talkin' football

I'd choose Liverpool as I think it has a friendlier feel to it. I've never really "got" Manchester, it feels disconnected and sprawly and it doesn't have a real identity of its own. Liverpool has got real character and it's really coming up now in terms of cultural attractions.
Liverpool but for my own personal reasons. Liverpool used to be the poor relative but it's not so anymore particularly after being named captical of culture 2008. There's major investment in housing and areas in and around Liverpool. They're roughly 40 miles apart (depending on where from in one to the other).
Manchester for sure. Especially Didsbury or the like. Liverpool has some really nice people but almost all the crime seems to be happening there. Just watch NW tonight. There are nice and bad areas in both. They are about 40 miles apart but a million miles as far as accent and personality.
I like Liverpool because of the ocean and the greater amount of preserved buildings (city with the highest amount of listed buildings outside of London I am told). What Liverpool doesn't have is a population as big as Manchester's. Manchester has more options for nightlife, etc and many little enclaves that make it nice. Both cities are similar in that the shops, restaurants, and pubs are the same between both, and of course, the same ones that dot most all UK towns and cities (something they learned from the Americans). Liverpool is a cheaper place to live than Manchester. I don't know which one I would choose, I've lived in Manchester but not Liverpool, so I'd give it a shot!
