Nothing wrong with being Polish Scotslass! I'm often accused of being a Brit in the U.S., and English in Oz (as I don't have a strong Australian accent).
An English guy I know identifies as British unless someone asks him why he isn't taking the day off for St Patricks' Day. Then he says "I'm not a "Paddy", I'm ENGLISH". (in a puffed up kinda way).

Interested to know when all this separatism started, i don't believe it was quite so strong in my youth.

I'm a Manc with a slight diversion through Yorkshire and most Americans think I'm Australian. Then when we had an actual Australian join our office they all thought she was British. If you're not speaking the Queen's English people don't think you're actually British.

Tae think again

Hows that?
I thank you very much...

My husband is Swiss but got British Citizenship and LOVES telling people he is British - in his really strong German accent !! and takes even greater pleasure in using his British passport to go through Swiss immigration whilst speaking perfect Swiss-deutch !!

When he was in the US people thought he was Irish or Scottish - he was highly amused !!

It was just that the noise of the English bawling their boasts drowned out everyone else!
