Food has really evolved over the years in this country. I remember when it was quite limited and. Thank heavens for Marco, Jamie et al. I forgot to add creams. Clotted cream, double cream over something as simple as jelly.

After many many years of searching for good bacon in the US I have finally found it. We were at a local diner last weekend and ordered the usual biscuits and gravy, eggs and bacon exept the bacon that came wasn't the fatty thin stuff you normally get here. It was thick and full of meat. I asked the waitress where she got it from and it came from a proper meat market not a grocery store. I don't know why it has taken me so long to figure out that I can get proper bacon it just isn't as readily available as it is in the UK.
What Americans do really well are their pies - love their pecan, apple, cherry even pumpkin. But of course us Brits do really good meat pies.

The UK does have some good deserts,Stodgy but good. Jam rolly polly, Bread and butter pudding, Spotted dick. Saugages are better in the UK, but there are some great sausages to be found in the USA, Polish etc. English Mustard is amazing. Chocolate in the UK outranks any found in the States. Other than that we have not got any real British good food. Roast beef is amazing in the USA and Cheeses are lovely and varied. I found a new cheese in Publix, it was horseradish flavoured cheese and was amazing with beef in a sandwich. There is very little to miss in the UK, when eating in America.

I miss Cumberland sausages! Cannot find them ANYwhere over here. And good flour for baking. I'm sorry, but this "all-purpose" rubbish is just useless, especially when you're trying to make genuine English scones. I finally found somewhere that sells Bird's Eye custard so I could try and make a trifle (yummy!) but where do I get the sponge fingers?! Also, I have NEVER seen gooseberry jam over here. Do americans just not eat gooseberries?
Oh and liver & onions. I know americans hate eating offal and you can't find those ingredients for love or money but honestly, liver and onions is actually good for you - filled with vitamins B1, B2, B3, B12, A, C, E, plus iron, selenium, magnesium and zinc. Sorry, must dash to the butcher's . . .

True, but it smells and tastes bad. Therefore, it won't find its way on this Yank's plate. Sorry!
